After Arafat IDF may need to keep peace in territories
The army may be forced to intervene in the Palestinian-controlled areas after the demise of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat to prevent innocent Palestinians from being harmed in the ensuing chaos, Central Command battalion commander Lt.-Col. Y. told The Jerusalem Post in a briefing Wednesday.

With the recent speculations regarding the Palestinian leader's failing health, the army has to be prepared for all situations, he said. "Arafat is still respected because of his past – he is a symbolic figure – but today he has no control over the area," he said. "When he is gone, I believe we will witness a settling of accounts and the army will be forced to become involved in order to protect the civilian population."

Armed thugs rule the street and are involved in extortion, robbery, rape, and weapon trading in addition to terrorism, he said. "Many of the PA officials fear for their safety and are constantly accompanied by armed guards," he said.

At the same time fugitives remain holed up in Arafat's Mukata compound in Ramallah, where they continue to plan terror attacks. "We are talking about fugitives with blood on their hands who are responsible for the murders of Israeli civilians and soldiers. Recognizing... that we will not enter the compound, the fugitives take advantage of the sensitive situation and the Mukata has become a hothouse," he said.

...................................................................

My prediction.....chaos will ensue after arafats death.

If israel tries to restore peace, the UN will issue a resolution condemning israel for going in.

If israel doesnt try to restore peace, the UN will issue a resolution
condemning israel for not going in.

juuuuust watch.

1. My prediction...
The IDF will use Arafat's death as an excuse to "protect" innocent civillians, in the process killing many times as many civillians as were threatened by internal violence.

Then, when the UN complains about the heavy handed tactics used by the IDF, Israel supporters will once again try to infer that the UN is anti-Semitic, and that in fact anyone who even remotely suggests that Israelis had anything other than the safety of Palestinian civillians in mind, is no better.

Finally, the end result will be that hundreds of innocent Palestinians will be killed, more Palestinian houses and plantations will be destroyed, the illegal settlements will be further expanded and consolidated, and the Palestinains imprisoned in even less of their lands.

In other words, business as usual.

3. Good to know where you stand...
I agree...israel should stay the hell out of it and let
any uncivil war between hamas and all the other litany
of terror kill each other off.

Sad that innocent palestinians will be caught in the crossfire between
these TERRORIST groups power grab, but you already figured that into your answer.

2. Now let me get this straight
The Israeli army bottles Arafat up in a windowless room for two years (which must have done wonders for his health) and now is planning to rescue palestinians from the 'chaos' resulting from his death?

Right.

Light therapy(aka phototherapy) lifts the gloom of seasonal affective disorder
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/MH/00023.html

During the low-light months of autumn and winter, people with seasonal affective disorder produce more melatonin — enough to cause potentially debilitating symptoms of depression. But exposure to bright light can suppress the brain's production of melatonin, helping regulate your body's internal clock and reducing those symptoms.

Researchers also speculate that light therapy causes changes in neurotransmitter activity in certain brain areas. Scientists are studying the effects of bright light on production of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, two chemicals that also have a role in depression.

Simply sitting in front of a lamp in your living room at home won't relieve symptoms of seasonal affective disorder. Indoor lights don't provide the type or intensity of light that's necessary to treat the condition. The specialized light boxes used for seasonal affective disorder emit light that's comparable to outdoor light just after sunrise or just before sunset.

7. Doctor My Ass....
While I won't go so far as to say the lightless conditions are the ONLY thing that led to Arafat's poor health, to suggest that lightless conditions have nothing to do with one's health is absurd.

It only shows the lengths that some will go to strike down ANYTHING that is remotely against Israeli tactics.

And my degree took 6, for your reference.

19. it's not possible
if you're not well aware of that I'd suggest getting a refubd on whatever fees you paid for your "medical degree"

Personally I'm not a doctor - and never made any dubious claims of being one, I do however work for one of the biggest public hospital in the state where I live, we have the biggest HIV treatment program in the state, I am also the daughter of a highly respected doctor who spent a lifetime working on the transmission of disease.

Please state a single study anywhere in the world from reputable sources that suggest this is possible.

How come after 14 years you don't even know the basics of HIV?

13. Terrorists planned to explode bomb tainted with HIV-infected blood
By Ellis Shuman April 13, 2004

Israeli security forces succeeded in thwarting ten terror attacks over the Passover holiday, officials said today. Tanzim members based in Nablus planned to include AIDS-infected blood in an explosive belt worn by a suicide bomber. Other terrorists planned to perpetrate a triple suicide bombing by infiltrating into Israel from Sinai. Yesterday, two terrorists were shot dead when they tried to infiltrate into Netzarim.

Shin Bet security officials described the situation over Passover as one of "imaginary calm." They noted that the ongoing closure imposed on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip had hampered the terrorists' efforts to perpetrate attacks, but also said that the intensive efforts of security forces had succeeded in thwarting many terror attempts. Army Radio reported this morning that there were still some 60 warnings of possible terror attacks in effect.

The recent arrest of Rami Hafez Abdullah, 24, a resident of a village in the Kalkilya area, revealed that the Fatah Tanzim infrastructure in Nablus had planned to launch a suicide attack in Israel with a bomb tainted with AIDS-infected blood.

"The terrorist cell apparently planned to obtain contaminated blood from some Palestinian hospitals but they had not passed the preliminary stage in their preparations," a spokeswoman for the Shin Bet security service said.

10. That's probably true, up to a point.
I'm sure he knows just what he can and can't achieve, and is clever
enough not to attempt the impossible. There is respect for him,
from the old days, so it's even more of a shame that he hasn't
chosen a viable successor, someone who might have a chance because
of carrying the seal of approval from Arafat.

He's stayed too long, and Israel will ultimately triumph in the
chaos to follow.
