The Canvassing Experience....Colorado will be BLUE!!!
So a friend and I showed up for canvassing at 10am at the local HQ...we received a speech from two local congressmen that indicated there were quite a number of independants helping out on the phone and canvassing.... the volunteers where spilling out into the parking lot and they had to give a couple presentations of how to be a canvasser to cover everyone...they were a little surprised and unprepared for all the people...donuts and bagels and water bottles availble

he indicated that in colorado the republicans have about 180k more registered voters than democrats....however there are many more independants in colorado that are leaning or strong kerry (like myself)....who will help us win...

they expect a turnout of 71% of the electorate this year....they are shooting for 74% of the dems to support Kerry to win the state for kerry...but said we can win with 73% of democrats getting to the poles

the independants are key because they will put us over the top....simply put we just need to get out people out to the polls on 11/02....and keep the indepentants leaning out way...there are several polls that show colorado neck and neck

we got a clipboard with the voting data of people in one part of a presinct who was either a dem voting dem or an independant voting dem...a lot of the people were not at home so we left Kerry and Salazar info along with a postcard to get a mail in/absentee ballot...

a couple were now (apologetically) bush supporters...but most people we actually met with where very strong/rabid Kerry supporters...we didn't have to spend any time convincing anyone...

we finished up around 1pm and headed back to turn in our sheets...more donuts and bagels.....

one point...i grabbed about 10-15 bumper stickers on my way out in the morning and people were begging me for them when i offered them...everyone was saying "i don't know where to get them" "i am sick of seeing W stickers" "give me a couple i have firneds who are interested"....what i take from this is that we need to push hard getting bumper stickers out....grab some yard signs and walk the neigborhood passing them out...you would be surprised how many people want them, but do not know how, or are too lazy to get them...deliver the signs and plant them in the ground!!!

One last point....i am an independant pushing hard for Kerry, there are a lot of folks like me out there.....WE NEED EVERYONE TO DO SOMETHING EVERYDAY TO GET KERRY ELECTED!!!!!

Folks leaning Kerry don't read this board (they don't know it exists) YOU HAVE GOT TO GET OUT AND FIND THEM AND HELP SHOW THEM THE LIGHT!!!!!

Thanks, and i hope to read your own canvassing story soon....

1. And you don't need a list to street canvass, you can just do it
and you can do it on your own. I work downtown in SW Ohio and I canvass everyday on my lunchbreak. I just select likely democratic voters to talk to.

I also initiate conversation about the election when I hang the TWO-FACED graphic on innercity utility poles. If you have not used it, I can attest top the fact that people love it. And the website it directs people to is cool:
http://twofacesofbush.com

Go to http://somnamblst.tripod.com to download high resolution TIF or PDF file to print and distribute everywhere. Utility poles, bus stops, bulletin boards, newspaper racks, car windshields, phone booths, etc. Guerilla marketers needed to create MAXIMUM BUZZ!
