Worried about the SINCLAIR nonsense, are we?
Edited on Sat Oct-09-04 07:58 PM by DrBB
From Atrios/Eschaton, for those who may not have noticed yet:

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (Pennsylvania)

August 17, 1996, Saturday, SOONER EDITION

David D. Smith, president and chief executive officer of Sinclair Broadcast Group, was arrested this week in his hometown of Baltimore and charged with a misdemeanor sex offense . Sinclair owns WPGH, the Fox affiliate in Pittsburgh, and programs most of WPTT.

The Baltimore Sun reported that Smith, 45, was arrested Tuesday night in an undercover sting at a downtown corner frequented by prostitutes.

On Thursday night, Sinclair issued a statement that Smith's arrest was unrelated to company business and ''The company will continue to operate under the direction of its current management.''

------

Oh but these things do work both ways, don't they, these smeary, cheezy sex allegation things. Specially if you're a holier-than-thou Reptilican media magnate bent on someone else's political destruction. Stay tuned....

2. Gosh.. wonder if any of Smith's consorts are interested in talking?
Guys don't just stop frequenting prostitutes just because they get caught... that type of mentality never goes away. Gosh.. it would be a pity if someone stepped forward with current information about that, wouldn't it?

The Web site, by the way, is filled with pro-Democrat stories, links etc.

7. This should make you feel better as well
I posted it earlier. If it makes you feel better, Sinclair stations get shitty ratings.

Sinclair has a corporate-produced national newscast out of Baltimore called News Central. Nothing wrong with that, since ABC, NBC and CBS have been doing something similar for decades. But the national newscasts are blended in with the local newscasts and clash horribly. Local news departments are often not very partisan - they go out, find the news, and report it. News Central makes FOX seem like the TV version of Pacifica. Not to mention they have a fondness for national weathercasts. Not a recipe for success, especially when most of Sinclair's stations are also-rans in the market.

Oh, and they have seriously gutted their stronger news operations. The ABC affiliate in St. Louis? Entire news department gone! Same with the FOX affiliate in Rochester. News may have been brought to the tiny UPN and WB stations throughout the chain, but some strong news departments have been destroyed.

As for ratings, take Pittsburgh, for example. FOX53's ratings plummetted when they gutted their news department, including the weather. The result? The newscast's ratings were slashed in half.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04176/336547.stm

The weaker stations have almost non-existent ratings, even when they run news in the 10 PM ET slot against FOX affiliates' news and the last hour of prime time on other stations. At 11? The only audience seems to be birds flying around the transmitter tower. And why should they? No local weather, no local sports, cheap looking local newscasts, and a hardcore RW slant on the national drop-in. Sinclair may own a lot of stations, and they are a big company, but I don't think they're highly respected. I'm sure the others simply laugh at them. Here in my town, Sinclair owns two stations - one UPN and the other WB. They're laughingstocks with Fresh Prince reruns. Baseball and NBA games keep them afloat.

It's the analogy of 'if a tree falls in a forest...'. Sinclair is a vile, amateurish company, and they deserve to be hounded (I'd complain with big shareholders, board members and their advertisers). Someday, karma will bite them all in the ass.

10. These Assholes Don't Care
Look at the kinky bastards we've encountered...from Jimmy Swagart to Dick Morris, Livingston and so on. Every kink in the book can be traced to these "paragons of morality"...but they don't care.

Remember, these people live in a parallel universe. While we're all-evil all the time and unless we conform and beg for their approval, we are un-repentant, while their own sins are glanced over. Just see Elmer Gantry sometime and you'll get a better picture.

Look at how much shit we have on Bunnypants and the bastard still swaggers around. The hypocrisy is so frustrating.

There are other ways we can take care of this company. Let's be smart and bigger...we've got the intelligence, creativity and community to make a lot of things happen now. The kharma train is rounding the bend on a bunch of these bastards soon...and I for sure will have no mercy.
