Alert, West Coast.....CBS Evening News....Sinclair
A long report on Sinclair's plans to air "Stolen Honor" during the 3rd week of October...identified David Smith as major repug donor...said while maybe inappropriate, not against any federal regulations.

Also great quote from Kerry: (And, I'm not kidding) "If elected, I will be a uniter, not a divider!" LOL

I just saw it here in DC on the 6:00 pm news. And it's the last thing Kerry needs. They have access to 25% of the TV market? Hell, that's a nightmare unless folks see it for what it is a dirty October trick.

The story mentioned that Sinclair said they would give Kerry equal time to respond--he should show 45 minutes of the best part of Up River--better yet show that idiotic Bush reading My Pet Goat.

8. or Greg Palast's Bush Family Fortunes:
The Best Democracy Money Can Buy.

That would be a good counter and jab at Sinclair, too.

3. Normal people can only donate $2000, but corporation can donate millions
Campaign finance reform is pointless without putting restrictions on the media as well.

If the media can refuse all ads and coverage of any candidate they don't support, and they can give millions of dollars in free airtime to the candidates they do support, then what is the point?

Average citizens are limited in how much money they can spend influencing an election by campaign finance laws, but corporations are allowed to do whatever they want.

Where in the Constitition does it say that corporations have more rights than voters?

I think that if this film airs, it will be great fodder to argue for bringing back the fairness doctrine.

9. WISH they'd bring up the film-maker (and I use that erm loosely)
The guy that's has a FAT contract with the BUSH ADMINISTRATION to produce, a website for "first responders" that has YET to be released!! Gee. sounds like ALL OF US paid for that fucking film! The guy is a former employee of Tom Ridge, and NOW gets taxpayer money.. where does he find the time to produce the website, AND make a film in his spare time. HE DOESN'T! That's why the website isn't done. The motherfuckers are funneling money to that guy to make the film. Isn't that an IMPEACHABLE offense? How about ciphoning Afghanistan war money to start preps for the Iraq War BEFORE it was approved? Oh. guess that doesn't count, either. Where are the watchdogs??? WHO paid for that film???

10. I still say it's illegal.
Is Sinclair a corporation? Is it "for profit", or "not for profit?" It sure as hell has to be one or the other. I don't think their stations run on solar energy.

Then according to the FEC federal guideline, it is prohibited to have funds which serve to promote a political bias which identify any federally identified candidate.

The programming they are forcing the NETWORKS to pre-empt does not belong to Sinclair. It is FCC public airwave network programming. And it is not a "news" story. This is more than just attempting to disallow the reading of names of the killed in Iraq.

This is 90 minutes of prime time commandeered air time of regular network programming. I believe you will see the FEC and FCC step up.
