Drudge :NYT TUESDAY: DEAN CAMPAIGN HITS TURBULENCE
NYT TUESDAY: DEAN CAMPAIGN HITS TURBULENCE
Mon Jan 12 2004 16:41:35 ET

Democratic Party officials now say that Howard Dean has slipped into turbulent territory, the NY TIMES is planning to report in Tuesday editions, beset by challenges and problems in both Iowa and New Hampshire, the two states where he was looking to nail down the nomination with early decisive wins.

Newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT how NYT's Nagourney is polishing a story about the Dean troubles.

"Dean's supporters expressed distress Monday at what many described as his faltering performance in a televised debate over the weekend, the latest in a series of difficulties he has encountered here," Nagourney claims.

"With the rest of the field working in Iowa, Gen. Wesley Clark has taken advantage in New Hampshire to move up in the polls behind Dean, drawing crowds that are beginning to rival Dean's and threatening his once dominant position in the state."

Impacting late Monday....

The king of all media whores now has his nose inserted in Adam Nagourney's rear.

24. NYT is no Republican Mouthpiece.
This is very bad. Dean is our best chance and the journalistic arm of the Dem. party is poised to say he is faultering in the primary!

Led the bogus "whitewater" attacks that crippled Clinton's presidency.
Reported that Gore would have lost a Fla recount.

They're disgusting.

But the source is Drudge's spin on something by the NYT--not the NYT itself.

I've heard it all before.

39. NYT sucks. But does anyone really deny that Dean is hitting turbulence.
Look at what we talk about here all day today and this week: credible evidence of Dean turbulence.

Furthermore, who denies Clark is moving up in the polls, and that he and others are getting big audiences on the trail?

41. True, but attacking the messenger is standard procedure here now.
Only in the past few weeks we have seen Andrew Young called an Uncle Tom and Charles Rangel an old hack, Carville and Begala denounced as mediawhores, and the Clintons labelled tools of the oligarchy for the unpardonable sin of failing to endorse Howard Dean or, worse yet, having reservations about him. Today, we're even seeing a tribe of Native Americans denounced for the same sin.

didn't sell enough advertisement space yet and had to fill in with something. This is just the same song, second verse. It will continue until we have a nominee. Next week it will be another candidate.

Making this many enemies is a bad thing. BTW, I said Dean had a poor performance at yesterday's debate and got flamed. I guess I am not vindicated that his supporters believe it too.

7. Good! It will make us work harder
Most if not all nominees have hit heavy turbulence before they succeeded. Everyone was wondering if and when it would happen for Dean, since he seemed to just be sailing along.

No one ever said it was going to be easy.

9. Unlike us, most are just not into the campaign
so they wait for the NYT to publish their stuff.

So, while the hiccups on the road to nomination seem like explosions to some, the importance of the establishment sticking together is the REAL story between the lines.

Any similarity between Nagourneys reporatge and the actual campaign are coincidental.

Just to qualify, I wasn't that happy with the "Debate " performance either. But I and everyone else on the campaign that I know, HATE that format.

You'll see what I mean if Gen. Clark ever participates in one.

if Drudge saw fit to make this an announcement. It's probably going to be big. Remember the Rush Limbaugh drug case that was going down? Drudge reported that the night before. This could be interesting.

23. The Stop Dean Movement (DNC) is in Full Swing
You can bet McAullife and Co. are calling in their markers at a feverish pace. When people start asking "why now?", Dean might just stick this up their collective ass's.

Happens every election, the organized power brokers start pulling the strings to smear opposition.

Let's see if Trippi can pull something out of his hat.

37. All campaigns hit turbulence
Dubya was almost derailed by McCain last time. Clinton was nearly destroyed by Paula Jones and the draft controversy in '92. Poppy got trounced in Iowa in '88, finishing third behind Pat Robertson and Bob Dole. Reagan got trounced in Iowa in '80. Carter was nearly ruined by his idiotic Playboy magazine interview in '76.

But when all was said and done, they all won their party's nomination and became President of the United States.
