The Pre-Election Primer!!!
Hello boys and girls,
What I'm about to write is almost certainly against generally accepted e-mail practices for WF, but given all that's at stake in the upcoming Presidential election, I feel saying what needs to be said is worth risking a smudge on my HR record. So here goes…
I find it both shocking and depressing that most of you out there are still in the Bush camp. I don't understand how this is even remotely possible. This is like if the election were Einstein vs. Gumby, and you're all choosing Gumby. Bush is not a smart man. Nay, he's not even a man of average intelligence. Every single person on this distro is smarter than George W. Bush. On top of that, he's a pathological liar and a cheat. Or if not, he's at least a puppet for those working "under" him. So why are so many still opting to vote for him? Here's the three most common arguments I've heard, and I'll address those before going into detail on some of his bad policies.
1.) "He's a moral man." 2.) "He's the kind of guy I'd hang out w/ at a BBQ." 3.) "He'll be stronger on the war on terror."
#1 - "He's a moral man." Based on what?? I hear only two arguments on this one, neither of which is adequate. The first is because he's pro-life. First off, go back to 1976. Abortion isn't a real issue anymore. It's just something pro-life candidates bring up to divert you from the real issues. But besides that, Kerry is also pro-life personally. However, he has the integrity to realize that his objections are based on his religion, and as a responsible legislator, you can't legislate religion. Many people have religious beliefs that don't force them to be pro-life, and many others don't have religious beliefs at all. You can't force Christian values on the entire country.
The second argument for Bush being a moral man is that he's religious. Interesting. Kerry's a devout Catholic, but some how he's not a moral man just because he won't legislate his Catholic values into law? Kerry's just as religious as Bush, maybe even more so, but simply refuses to wear his religion on his sleeve - much like Reagan who, although he was one of the more religious Presidents in the last century, chose not to publicly talk about it all the time, as he felt that it would dishonor both the Church and the White House. Bush, on the other hand, drops the name Jesus Christ every chance he gets because he knows that's what will get him the "church vote". However, have you ever noticed that he'll never actually say what flavor of Christianity he subscribes to (Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, etc.)? If he's so proud of his faith, why won't he tell us more about it? Because if he says Baptist, it might alienate the Methodists, Presbyterians, Catholics, etc. So whereas he'll mention Jesus every chance he gets to get votes, he won't go into specifics of his faith for fear of losing votes. Pretty cowardly…
#2 - "He's the kind of guy I'd hang out w/ at a BBQ." Is this really the standard we're using for electing the leader of the free world? Gomer Pyle would have been a good guy to have at a BBQ, but I wouldn't want him leading my country. I may not demand a lot out of President (well, actually I do), but I do demand that the man be smarter than me! More articulate than me! We're talking about a man who is going to set policy for millions of Americans, talking to foreign heads of state, etc.
Saying "misunderstimate", "compassionativity", "transshipped" - these things don't mean you simply don't have a grasp on the finer points of the English language, they mean you're an idiot. How can the world respect us and our leader when he can't talk as articulately as the common 7th grader? This may be the point where many of you would like to point out that he went to Yale. Well, let me tell ya - a C & D student at Yale isn't any smarter than a C & D student at Colorado State. Most ivy league schools aren't any harder than the best public state schools. They're simply MUCH harder to get into, and we all already know that Daddy got him into Yale….
#3 - "He'll be stronger on the war on terror." Based on what? Bush gave up the war on terror!! In 2003 Bush decided to take away most of the resources we had devoted to hunting down Osama Bin Laden and the rest of the Taliban in Afghanistan and sent them all over to Iraq to fight a war, based on lies, against a country that posed absolutely no threat to us. In doing so, he has since created a haven for terrorists (in Iraq) that did not exist before. Terrorist activity is at an all-time high, much more active than before 9/11. I could go off for pages on this subject, but I'll wait for any replies contesting this, and shoot them down w/ facts one by one… :)
Now just to mention a few other failures, w/o getting too wordy:
Taxes - W's tax cuts have favored only the wealthiest 2%. There may be a few of you on this e-mail, but I'm pretty sure most of us don't fit into this category. I make a lot less than sr mgmt, but I make a lot more than the typical operations worker on the floor. I have my deductions on my W4 jacked up to like 10 (so I'll make the interest instead of the Feds), and I STILL only saved around $15/paycheck when W enacted his taxcut. That's $30/month, not even enough for a night out w/ my wife. If I only saved that little, can you imagine the people makind half what I do? How is that helping American families? You know what portion of the economy picked up after his tax cut? Sales of high-end luxury cars and vacation homes! The rich are saving 10's, maybe even 100's of thousands per year, while the average wage slave is saving maybe $200. Now I'm no class warrior - I don't want to pay a bunch of taxes, and think eventually we should have a flat tax across the board (or switch to a sales tax). But when the economy is the worst it has been since the Great Depression, that is not the time to cater to the rich and screw the poor.
Economy - 1.) took the biggest budget surplus in history and turned into the biggest defecit in history 2.) raised our ntl debt to almost $7 trillion, a 1/3 of that being to foreign countries 3.) the only President in our nation's history to have a net job loss during his term 4.) the only President in our nation's history to have an MBA, but has led to the worst economy since the GD. 5.) helped create tax policies that actually reward companies for sending our jobs overseas
Education - W will be quick to point out how much $$ has gone to eduction over the past couple years. But what he fails to tell you is that as a percentage of budget, it's the lowest amount in recent history. This, at the same time the "No Child Left Behind" program has placed much greater demands on schools. So we've demanded results, but not given any money to fund them…
Environment - Oh, where to begin… 1.) Clear Skies Iniative - so horrible. Nice name, but it actually loosens restrictions on the worst polluters. The air would be better if he had left the existing laws as is.
2.) Removing restrictions on power plants, saying that by allowing them to save money on standards, they'll upgrade to cleaner parts/filters/etc. on their own w/ the savings. Out of 249 facilities across the U.S. affected by this policy, only 1 has voluntarily upgraded to clean emmisions.
3.) Healthy Forests Iniative - or as I like to call it, "the giveway to the big lumber companies". After the raging forest fires of 2002, there's no doubt some forest thinning needs to be done. But there's a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it. As any forester will tell you, what needs to be thinned is all the underbrush in the forests. That's how they start and first spread. But Bush and his cronies, being big buddies w/ Big Lumber, enacted a policy that allows lumber companies go in and clear large swaths of our national forests. And we're subsidizing them to do it! That's right, your tax dollars are paying Big Lumber to clear-cut our forests. I'm sure we'll see prices fall on the price of paper as a result though… yeah, right….
The big one - IRAQ Where are those ever-elusive weapons of mass destruction?? Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld were CERTAIN there were WMDs… Correction, they knew there weren't all along. They also knew that the American people wouldn't go for the war unless the American people believed there were. There was no intelligence failure; they simply manipulated the intelligence to paint the picture they wanted. Remember the claims that Hussein and Bin Laden must be big buddies? At least Bush woke up (or more accurately, Karl Rove did) and stopped making the claim earlier this year, but Cheney has still been trying to make the connection in speeches as recenty as a couple weeks ago! Some facts: 1.) Iraq/Hussein did not have WMDs. They didn't even have decent weapons to wage a conventional war. 2.) Hussein & Bin Laden hated each other - they weren't allies. 3.) Bush was warned about Iraq post-war uprisings before we went in, but ignored them. Over 1100 U.S. soldiers dead to-date… 4.) The Administration outed a covert CIA operative because they didn't like what her husband said about Iraq. 5.) In 2001, Colin Powell gave a speech to the league of Arab nations in Cairo, Egypt, in which he assured them Saddam Hussein was no threat, that he couldn't even wage a decent conventional against his neighbors. He said that the sanctions (since 1991) worked, and that we had him perfectly contained. If he can't even wage a conventional war against his neighbors, why would we think he would wage a war w/ WMD's against the US.
I welcome any comments back, as I got pages and pages of material to back this stuff up, but I don't expect you to waste your time doing so. I just felt I had to unload some info to everyone, as there's a lot at stake in this election, and there's a lot more going on than what you hear in the 8-second sound bytes on the news. I hope I at least gave everyone something to think about, even if I didn't completely sway you.
VOTE KERRY!!! SAVE AMERICA!!!
Peace and Love, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
