Christopher Reeve makes call from the grave for stem cell research

In a public service advertisement recorded about a week before his death, the wheelchair-bound movie star urged Californians to back the controversial research when they vote in a referendum on November 2.

"Stem cells have already cured paralysis in animals," Reeve said in the television spot that began airing 11 days ahead of the US general election in which voters will also decide on local and state ballot initiatives.

"Stem cells are the future of medicine. Please support Proposition 71 and stand up for those who cant," he said, referring to the California ballot initiative backed by the state's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites).
