I'm pretty sure we're going to win the election...but....
....I have never seen so much ugliness around me in my entire life. I am finding out that people I have known and worked with for years are racists, hate mongers, imperialists, theocratic isolationists, fascists and just plain old meanies. On top of that I have realized that I am surrounded in this country by corruption, manipulation, corporate evil, deeply rooted apathy and careening narcissism.

But it's all good.

We will win this election. we will work together to popularize the idea that government can be caring and thoughtful without being weak or pandering. We will work together to bring about a theater of discourse and wisdom. We will reach out to those who have been manipulated by their leaders and help them find their good intentions.

The polls are wrong. Everywhere we can all see and feel the change in the air. Have you ever seen this much drive for change? There are groups of newly registered voters, angry youth, the technologically astute, frustrated retirees and true Americans; all ready to make a stealthy run for the polls; the pollsters and pundits will forever be branded incapable of understanding America and Americans.

Our country has changed, I can see it. We will reverse the reversal of progress that has gripped us for the last four years. We will prove to the world that we are not lost. This is our opportunity to do something good for the world. On November 2nd let's make a change...Kerry in a landslide.

1. I agree, and your post made me think
When you said, "I am finding out that people I have known and worked with for years are racists, hate mongers, imperialists, theocratic isolationists, fascists and just plain old meanie" I realiozed that this is a watershed moment in history -- old paradigms clashing up against new ones. I, too, have never in my 52 years seen such a black-and-white division among people I thought I knew. All the buried ugliness is showing through, and all the of the buried beauty is showing through as well. Maybe it's just my post-workday gin and tonic taking effect, but I see all this as positive. The election is forcing many people to confront the ugly side of their nature, or that of other people. This only works if dialogue follows, if people talk and exchange thoughts and ideas. I think that's what this election is all about. It's a catharctic change in our nation's history, a necessary -- but temporarily ugly -- process we have to go through.

8. How's the gin and tonic now? When you say...
..."black and white division" you made me think that maybe this is all part of the process. There really does have to be a separation of ideas and attitudes, like sifting the gold out of the sand. We need this process in order to see the things in others that we do not want to see in ourselves.

2. Change is in the air. . .
one good sign in my area is the HUGE lines for early voting. As a good friend of mine and fellow DUer says, people don't race to be first in line or take time off from work to preserve the status quo.

Furthermore, Bush's approval ratings have not climbed past 49% this calendar year. No sitting president has ever been re-elected when that figure was below 54%.

According to Zogby and Craig Crawford of the Congressional Quarterly, wherever Dubya's poll ratings are in the middle of next week is where they will most likely stay. And it won't be enough.

Yes, boys and girls, a change is gonna come.

3. Oh yeah! You are so right!

You can feel it in the air! I went to Election Judge class today. (I haven't voted since 1980!) The group (35 people? on edit: 50+ people) was varied -- slightly more women than men, but not hugely so. Mostly people in their 30-50's, but lots of old people & a decent showing of 20 something's too. Behind me were three very respectful young men -- 20 somethings. At the end of the meeting I had a chance to really check them out & one had a Kerry button. They were all friends.

Kerry in a landslide. Not that he's not going to have to fight for it, but our man is not going to concede just because Fox news declares W the winner. F*ck Fox news.

4. Kerry Will Win
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 09:17 PM by Erika
I have never seen an election where democrats are so charged with enthusiasm as this election. Many who gave Bush a chance last election are totally burned out by him now. The Iraq farce is really hurting him and seems to do so more each day among thinking voters.

What I can see happening now is Iraq hurting us and him so much that it's starting to register even among 'un-thinking' voters...that's the key!
