*big sigh*

I watched "Going Up River" tonight, I knew I shouldn't but ... I ordered the DVD, and I watched.

I am left with a profound respect for John Kerry that I didn't have before. Sure I supported him, but I've never been more convinced that HE is EXACTLY what this country needs right now.

*another sigh*

Yet, I am fearful, because I supported Al Gore of course, then Wellstone, then Mondale, then Dean ... and of course, now John Kerry.

I realize that I speak for many Minnesotans/Americans when I say I am "fearful" that * will win somehow. But, regardless I am supporting John Kerry with all my heart and soul. My vote is no longer about being ABB, it's about supporting the best man to represent Americans at this time ... John Kerry.

Can I get a witness? ;)

under the "more than you wanted to know" category, he has the same long legs and lean good looks as Mr. senseandsensibility. I'm a sucker for that; but of course, there's his inner spirit too, and his intelligence, and his courage. It's a package alright!:loveya:

and as i was walking out of the theatre, i came to the conclusion that if he doesn't win, it's because this country is not deserving of such a man.

I really like her, too, BTW...so much class. Even just when Kerry's speaking, the way that she stands and watches him. I dunno, just something about it.

28. I know what you mean about how she watches him...
there's this shot from that giant rally this week where she's standing off to the side, leaning on something, and she just looks so proud and confident. It's hard to explain, as you said, but she radiates a certain kind of confidence and intelligence that is so damn refreshing.

She's a big part of my love for Kerry. Sometime early in the summer I picked up a Time or Newsweek and read a joint interview with her and Elizabeth Edwards and I was just floored, I thought, these are the women I want in the White House, and these incredibly smart and strong women are a great testament to their husbands.

7. DId the same to me.. I watched it the day it was released in theatres
And..

I ended up writing an online review that is still on the imdb web database..
Here it is

Austin

Date: 2 October 2004
Summary: Great for young voters

I cried. I was shocked. I was proud. I was stunned and awakened. Any young voter that is not aware of what went on around the time of the Viet Nam war should see this movie. It is well made, and allows you to see for yourself what John Kerry experienced, and what he did. He doesn't speak in the movie but is 'shown speaking' through archival footage.

The situations were overwhelming and desperate. The costs; the ultimate one could pay. Quiet moments of real emotion play poignantly when for example, John Kerry after dropping his ribbons over a newly constructed fence the government put up to keep veterans off the mall at the capital, sits down with his wife, head buried in his arms, and is apparently weeping.

The desperation of these young men both volunteers and drafted, by the reception they were given when they returned, and the horror they saw in war is clearly evident in the massive movement that was the Veterans march in April of 1971 in Washington DC.

John Kerry was obviously caught by surprise at the reaction and the reception that met him when asked to comment to the Senate Armed Forces committee. Going Upriver is an honest portrait of conflict between loyalty, patriotism, duty, ethics morality and conviction. A must see.

Post's like yours are exactly why I won't watch it. I gave my heart away and had it broken once this year and that is enough.

I'll fight like hell for Kerry, but I won't love him until he is securely in Office.

19. I watched it.
It left me with a newfound respect for John Kerry, but my heart still firmly belongs to Wes Clark. I support Kerry, but don't believe that I will ever love any other candidate the way I did, and still do, Wes.

This is not to take away anything from Kerry, who I'm sure will make an excellent President. I just don't give my heart away lightly.

39. I DID watch the film,
and as I said, I truly respect and admire Kerry and think he will make a fine President. I just don't fall in love easily. That it happened with any candidate at all this year was highly unusual for me, and I don't believe it will happen again. In fact, I have never in my life been in love with a candidate that I voted for for President.

I think that Kerry, Clark and Dean are each unique and special individuals with their own special attributes and strengths. I respect and honor all three of them, each has made his own special contribution to this campaign and the defeat of Bush. I'm happy for you that you have been able to fall in love twice, I just am not built that way.

The good news is that I don't have to be in love with a candidate to support him and work hard for him.

I respect and honor where your heart is right now. I am truly glad that so many people are falling in love with Kerry. As I said, I am just not the type who falls in love easily. I hope you can respect where I am as I respect where you are.

Welcome to this great feeling! I found the same feeling during the convention in Boston. I was aggressively ABB, yet after I watched the final night (and only that night) of the DNC, particularly Senator Kerry's speech, I was thinking, "Okay, how did THIS happen, exactly? WOW! This is an excellent candidate AND a terrific guy. OMG, we're going to WIN!!!" Haven't looked back, either, not for a moment. :toast:

21. you're not alone...
he wasn't my first, second, third, or even fourth pick in the primaries. I watched all the debates, listened to the "John Kerry is dead in the water" crap and thought oh, hell, when Iowa poured in with their support for him during the caucasus. I watched each night as he gained, and GAINED, and GAINED support. I wondered WHY  what the hell does this man have that Dean, Clark or Edwards doesn't and WHY are they listening to him only.

Now I see why.

Not only do I support him, I advocate for him and have a big sign in my front yard, 2 bumper stickers, and I get angry when someone "disses" him. I just never "knew" him and now I do--that is through my constant search for what made him so special and different from the pack.

24. Amen, mzmolly!
I greatly misjudged Senator Kerry, and I am sorry.

I know part of it was just that he was "the other guy" and "not Dean", and part of it was the horrible animosity on this site during the primaries, but I am sorry that I was so quick to judge him.

He was certainly not a very strong campaigner early in the primaries, so that didn't help, and then when he was attacking Dean so relentlessly later in the season I just started to dislike him. But it really had nothing to do with Kerry the man, it was just part of the battle.

And it was "Going Upriver" that sealed the deal for me, too.

I look forward to getting to know him much better over the next 8 years, and I am thrilled that he is going to be our next president. We are very very lucky to have him. He's the best candidate I could imagine at this point.

30. Ya gotta believe!
Dean taught us that, too (and so did the Red Sox this year).

It didn't turn out quite the way we thought or hoped it would, us Dean supporters, but I think in the end we are going to realize that indeed, we are getting exactly what we went into this for. We are taking back our country, and taking back democracy. Just like Howard said we would. We have the power. And we're about to club the neocons over the head with it. :)

after I watched a swift boat ad. I shit you not. The one where he goes on about cutting off ears and such. He sounded so melodic and poetic, and definitely anti-war. I haven't been the same since. This man has touched something within me that has been dead for years. I'm a child of the sixties, I didn't sign up for all this bullshit. Someone shut down the machine in the middle of production and I have been lost since.

33. Can I add
that although I haven't seen "Going Up River" I don't understand why roughly half of the US voters can't see that JK is the far superior candidate. I would have thought the debates proved it. I think he would make a great leader. I've read everything I can find about him and have liked him very very much(!) ever since I saw his picture playing ice hockey. This is your chance to drop the divisive and ignorant one. It's idiotic to even think that JK won't keep Americans safe. How ignorant and narrowminded can the people who say that be.

42. Mine too. "Going Upriver" put me over the top for Kerry. He's the man.
The spot on right man for the times. Everything in his life and experience has brought him to this critical time for America, he's the man to guide us out of this dark river of neo-fascism and impending tyranny.

The bible says "By their fruits you will know them." And Bushco has given us the rotten fruit of war, greed and lies. Kerry has led an impeccible life of service to this country.

I urge everyone to see this movie -- and especially all the Boomers. It will bring back startling memories of things that all the newsreels of 30 years ago have left out. And it was great to see Bobby Muller again after all these years. Paralyzed from the chest down, he was co-founder of VVAW. These Repulsicans claiming that the members of the VVAW faked their military service should have to say that to Bobby Muller, face to face.
