Kerry has a "first pooch" !!
Who knew! Did anyone see Mo Rocca tonight on Jay Leno? He was cruising the streets of California with a Bush-looking "Barney" dog, and a beautiful, big German Shepherd! He was polling people to see which dog they liked best ~ :smoke: The Barney dog, or the Kerry dog.

Here's a separate story relating to the Bush/Kerry dogs~

President Bush's Scottish terrier trails Kerry's German shepherd in 'dog poll'
Thursday, September 2, 2004
By Jeff Kart
Times Writer
The presidential race has gone to the dogs.

A new Presidential Dog Poll, sponsored by the American Kennel Club, finds that dog owners likely to vote in the 2004 presidential --- prefer a German shepherd (Kerry) serve as the First Dog over a Scottish terrier (Bush).

Those polled were not told that U.S. Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic nominee, owns a German shepherd, and President Bush, the Republican nominee, owns a Scottish terrier.

<snip> "I'm just thankful that they both have pets," she said of the candidates, "because I think that a pet adds a quality to a family.

"People that care about animals generally also care about people."

In the poll, 51 percent said they preferred a German shepherd serve as First Dog, compared to 27 percent who preferred a Scottish terrier.

Senator Kerry's dog is named "Cym". President Bush's dog is named "Barney"

5. My scottie dogs are upset
Here's a photo of my little boy, a real highlander, taken
on a scottish highland mountain top (Ben Hope). He supports
Kerry, along with the rest of the pack. He sends good blessings
to cousin barney that he enjoy his retirement from public life.

7. I should have said "humans" bad behavior
Because I don't think we can "own" a dog. They are our friends and part of the family. But I can't consider W as "human" either, and I am sure he thinks he "owns" everything and everybody

9. I think it's reversed
Dogs rule the universe, and we are merely servants, caterers, door
persons, butlers, maids, cleaners and bed fluffers. It is such
a pleasure to be owned by such gracious beings, who don't make too
much of their superior status.

Barney has let his bush off leash, and he has fouled all over the
place. If barney kept him on a closer tether, surely things on this
planet would be better for us all. Bad owner, barney! :-)

I love Scotties (and Barney) so even though I am a Kerry supporter--I am a Barney fan as well. I would be willing to vote for Barney to stay at the White House when Bush is evicted. Kerry could have two dogs.

My cousin has two German Shephards--they are great dogs--but I personally prefer the attitude and personality of the Scotty.

(I love all animals though--but Scotties are a favorite!!!)

11. Barney is a democrat
He's from a democratic family, as i understand, related to
new jersey's once governor, ex-EPA person, who, in a moment of
deranged judgement sold out. I can only be grateful that at
least one member of the white house is sane... and geesh,
that things would only be that much worse without the lone
democrat defending the flag.

Barney, keep up the good work, we'll relieve you short on!

14. Another Scottie Lover here...
...from the time I was a child, and I am an old lady now, there has ALWAYS been a wee Scottie in my life. I would be willing to aid in Rescue Barney so that he could remain in his rightful place in the WH after Bush is evicted! I don't think that Barney cares of GWB one tiny bit either. If you are a Scottie lover, then you know how independent they are. And the pics of Barney with the asshole Bush? Barney seems even more stand-offish to me than the usual Scottie bent.

And....do you recall the press conference in Crawford when Barney took and appropriate dump in the background when Bush was talking - love that dog!!!!!

She has been known to carry the occassional Kerry sign strapped to her body. With typical Scottie stoicism, she shoulders her burden for the good of her country.

My wee lassie is a very fine democrat as well.

And....the most famous WH dog of them all??? FDR's Scottie Fala!

So it is my belief that Barney is a closet Democrat.

12. Nice Kerry Pet Story
John Kerry:
I have always had pets in my life and there are a few that I remember very fondly.

When I was serving on a swiftboat in Vietnam, my crewmates and I had a dog we called VC. We all took care of him, and he stayed with us and loved riding on the swiftboat deck. I think he provided all of us with a link to home and a few moments of peace and tranquility during a dangerous time.

One day as our swiftboat was heading up a river, a mine exploded hard under our boat. After picking ourselves up, we discovered VC was MIA. Several minutes of frantic search followed after which we thought we'd lost him.

We were relieved when another boat called asking if we were missing a dog. It turns out VC was catapulted from the deck of our boat and landed confused, but unhurt, on the deck of another boat in our patrol.

I also fondly remember a parakeet in college, Dodi Faustus. Dodi was a smart bird who learned a few words of French and Italian, but not smart enough to avoid having to be rescued from a tree once.

My daughters and I had a Golden Retriever named Winston.

Today, Teresa and I have a German Shepherd named Cym and a yellow parakeet.

16. Ahem...
Among WH residents who have owned Scotties are: Teddy Roosevelt (Jessie), FDR (Fala), Eleanor Roosevelt (Meggie), Dwight Eisenhower (Telek and Caacie), Ronald Reagan (Scotch and Soda), and Jackie Kennedy.

Barney didn't pick Bush. Anyone who measures their masculinity by the size of their dog has a problem that a dog surely won't solve.

My Scottie is a democrat! :)

17. It's a joke, son!
I'm sure there are plenty of male cheerleaders out there with rottweilers, just as there are plenty of manly men with terriers.

Just like the Bush v. Gore decision, this affects no other individual.

Roosevelt's dog was a Scottie. He's the most famous Scottie of all - he's even depicted in the Roosevelt sculpture at the FDR memorial.

An I don't have dog in this fight (literally) since my two are a beagle and a dachshund!

I love parakeets, and I can tell you, once I found out that Kerry had a parakeet in college and has one now, I knew I had the right candidate.

22. Barney's a cutie! But HARDLY a cowboy dog!!
That's the thing people don't realize.. Barney is a blueblood doggie. Cute as anything.. but NOT a ranch dog! If Bush wants to pose as a cowboy he needs an Aussie, a Border Collie, or a German Shepherd... a ranch dog!

Kerry's dog is much more suitable.

I do love Scotties.. but downhome texans, they aren't!

28. I used to have a German Shepherd
Sorry to offend all the Scotty owners on this thread but German Shepherds are one of the most intelligent dog breeds around. They suffer a bad reputation but unless they are trained to attack they are usually all bluster. Still most people aren't brave enough to find out.

My dog was so smart that if he was left alone too long he got bored and would figure out some way to escape. Though often when I came home I found him sitting on the front porch. The dog lived almost 11 years but delveloped cancer in the end and had to be put down. That proved to be one of the hardest things I ever had to do in my life.
