Why Would The GOP Want To Be Lenient With Military Absentee Ballots...
... and extra strict with all other absentee ballots? Is it just me?

Seems to be a developing pattern that voters who are typically Democratic voters are given to-the-letter, by-the-book, strict-rules-of-play standards that they must meet. But voters who are typically Republican or military aren't held to the same standards.

True, there are some logistical problems and other delays... but ought not these folks be smart enough to take this into consideration when voting... and so they should cast their absentee ballots early, yes?

They know that if they want their Christmas presents to arrive in time for Christmas day, they they must MAIL EARLY... it ought not be such a huge leap of logic for folks to realize that the same thing applies to their absentee vote as well.

Why would the GOP want to bend over backward to accommodate some, but not others?

Why?

2. i read an article that absentee ballots to ex pats in the EU were not
arriving on time to get them back to many (esp battleground) states

There is concern that other snafus may limit the overseas vote. According to a survey by the New York Times, election officials in several battleground states failed to mail out "tens of thousands" of absentee ballots by the Sept. 20 cutoff date. Other computer problems also have reportedly slowed the number of registrations from overseas. A new Internet-based system designed to speed up the process is open only to overseas members of the military and their families, the Times reported today.
