I posted a thread earlier about how parish directories are being abused by Republicans, who promised to only use them for voter registration drives (story here:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-07-22-gop-catholics_x.htm )
This is an example of the propaganda that's being mailed to Catholics in the 3rd US District in Kansas, using parish directories - which clearly state that they're not to be used for mailing list purposes.
Dear Fellow Catholics,
As Catholics, we have the responsibility to bring our Catholic morality to bear on social issues. This is especially true when voting. The Church has endeavored to assist us with clear teaching on all social topics. Lest we think the candidate who deserves our vote is the one who is right on more questions than another candidate, the Church has labeled some issues of such moral significance that they deserve the label "intrinsically evil" and include elective abortion, euthanasia, fetal (as distinct from adult or cord) stem cell research, cloning and marriage as anything but the union between a man and a woman.
These issues take precedence over all others meaning they cannot be reconciled with Catholic teaching under any circumstances. Candidates who are wrong on one or more of these fundamental issues display a philosophy so at odds with Catholic teachings that they cannot redeem themselves by being right on any number of lesser issues.
Please review the following list of candidates who have proven record of strong Pro-Life, Pro-Family values.
President George Bush
Senator Sam Brownback
3rd US District Candidate Kris Kobach
We the undersigned will be voting our Pro-Life, Pro-Family values. We urge you to consider these and other pro-life candidates. Exercise your rights as faithful Catholic citizens. Vote Tuesday, November 2nd.
