Washington Post Endorsement...any bets?
Maybe Sunday's edition?? I am betting on a Kerry endorsment, based on the positive trends we have seen over the last week with other key papers.

7. If they endorse Bush, then I'm cancelling my subscription
along with all the Democrats in DC, Maryland & NoVa who make up a lot of their readership.

24. They didn't endorse him last time
And if you read their editorials, they usually oppose Bush and his policies.

4. do they endorse candidates?
I half-heard someting on TV about newspapers that don't do endorsements, not sure if WP was one of them...

It's possible the WP could go with Bush. I just saw Bob Woodward on Larry King, taking questions from callers. They might as well have had Matthew Dowd. Woodward answered every single question by defending Bush. Even when Bush wasn't being criticized, he would just give a non sequitur defense of Bush.

12. As far as I know
USA Today and the Los Angeles Times do not endorse Presidential candidates. I belive the LA Times does endorse candidates at local levels. As for the Wash. Post they do make Presidential endorsements and endorsed Gore in 2000. I'd be very surprised if they endorsed Bush even though they haven't been all that nice to Kerry.

13. They will reach new depths! Tepid Kerry but more likely Bush
I read this paper regularly from '83 through the start of the Clinton impeachment (at which point I cut back, now I never read it). They're not called the "PentaPost" for nothing. Their management and editorial staff have about as much integrity as their reporters.

THEY ARE VILE

Expect nothing from them that would help Kerry much.

14. They will endorse Kerry
and let the Washington Times endorse bush. The post has been crappy for the past few years, but they would lose too big if they even considered supporting old coke head. I've been reading the post all my life, but would have no problem canceling my subscription if they went over that line. I suspect that a significant number of their readers would also cancel.

20. You're probably right.
My objectivity is nonexistent due to my utter disdain for the Post organization. It really all started when they crushed the typesetters union. You're on the Internet and can get better news here, why not just cancel the subscription anyway. The withdrawal isn't that bad! My sympathies to you and all of us who have a choice between a cult-owned piece of trash, The Washington Times, and the banality of evil in the form of the Post. They will endorse Kerry after giving him a raw deal just to keep the natives happy. I should never underestimate their insincerity!

15. How could the WP.....
actually even think to endorse a man who has committed high criems and misdemeanors in the WH, who has the most secretive presidency in the history of our country, and has gutted the environment, economy and the middle class. Why should it even be a question or 50-50 chance that they will endorse Bush. It is a no brainer based on any objective standard!

19. Woodward
is a sell-out and an idiot. He's totally lost any integrity he ever had, but we have to remember he identified himself as a Republican in All the Presidents Men. Remember the scene from the movie where Dustin Hoffman playing Bernstein reacts with mild shock when Robert Redford playing Woodward revealed he was a Republican?

Woodward just wants to stay in bed with power. He's totally immune from reality at this point. Wonder what he'll do when Kerry is president...:D

18. The Washington Post has taken a hard right turn ...
The news sections are excellent, but the editorial staff have taken a hard right "support my president no matter what" stance.

I regret, like that right wing rag periodical, "National Review;" and the trashy daily tabloid, "The New York Post," ... our once respected Washington Post newspaper will support Bush Co. and all his buddies propping up the military industrial complex. Any other position would be bad for "beltway business."
