1. An old guy in Chicago once told me
that the Tribune attempted to break a strike by hiring scabs. Since then, I have had no respect or use for the Tribune. They still haven't taken my Cubs to the promised land either.

2. An excerpt from the first letter
You uncharacteristically state that, "Diplomatic solutions should always be the goal."

Is there anything that you have seen in Bush's nature, any slight indication in things that he as said or done, any hint at all that there is a snowball's chance of this happening?

Bush doesn't care about any of the collateral issues; he knows what he's doing; he doesn't care if anyone thinks it's wrong; he's going full-speed ahead, no matter what our allies, our enemies, the majority of American people or the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune says.

Wishing doesn't make it so, yet you endorse him based on the totally hopeless hope that he will grow a diplomatic side.

You blithely state about John Kerry that "it can be difficult to fathom who is speaking--the war hero, or the anti-war hero."

You make it seem that this dichotomy, his deep understanding and appreciation of all sides of the issue, is a liability as opposed to a diplomatic asset. It is the very thing that you wish for Bush, yet since it is owned by a Democrat, there must be something wrong with it.

Riverwoods -- I have one question after reading your endorsement of President Bush's election: Does your editorial board read the news sections of the Tribune?:headbang:

6. My pleasure! I'm glad to have seen them (thanks to the DU'er who posted
in another forum about the large number of readers who wrote letters, expressing their displeasure w/ the paper over their endorsement of the Shrub-a-dub).

7. I'm in total agreement with the one who asked
...if the editorial board read its paper's own news section!

Who's the paper's publisher? Who owns the Trib? This might give a clue as to the reason for their second Bush endorsement.
