Confident, optimistic and scared to death.

I truly believe we will win, all the signs point our way, but I also can't help being terrified that we will not, for whatever reason (cheating, or stupid voters, or stupid cheating voters).

The stakes are incredibly high. Losing is not an option.

23. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic, but if Shrub wins,

I'm trying to figure out some way to get through the next four years without feeling as bad as the last four years. So far I haven't come up with any gimmick or self hypnosis that things won't be as bad as they seem. Maybe get different hobbies, I don't know, something to get your mind off this guy. But I'll most certainly reduce news watching/reading. Because every day will be a Herculean struggle to stay sane with this joker if he gets in or steals the election.


We've got to win, there are no two ways about it. We have just got to win. And I think we will.

24. I'm feeling fatigued and I'm taking a rest this weekend but

I'm saving myself for the last sprint through this next week and next weekend and I'll be a poll watcher Nov. 2nd.

I've felt rather confident these past 2 weeks. I feel most people have made up their minds by now and it's just a matter of wait and see now.

I'm afraid of the voting problems more than anything else. I voted early because I'll be at the polls on election day all day. The electronic voting machines literally scare the sh*t right outta me. I wish we didn't have them but we do. My county has them but they are a closed system without internet access or downloading to a centralized place and they say there is a paper trail for recounting. It still makes me nervous because there might be a software glitch or something of that nature....

Then I'm worried that all the absentee applications won't be counted. I wish they would make an effort to county EVERY vote.

I do feel confident that many, many, many, many people are going to vote for Kerry. I just feel it in my bones.

I'm also afraid that Kerry will have a difficult time trying to pass his policies once elected, and it will be a non-stop battle to try and turn this country around even with him in office. His presidency will just be the beginning. All odds are against the majority and it's not going to be easy.

I'm going to be batting down the hatches. I'll feel like the end is near. Our future as a country as we have known it will be gone. I see nuclear catastrophe if Bush remains. That's outside the so-called margin of error. Nevertheless, I'm feelin' good because I think the undecideds and the unpolled give Kerry at least a five percent bulge that isn't showing up in of the polls. I can't see bush* getting much more than his approval rating, which is probably under 45%...

Nervously confident is right...the faith-based-communities are gonna try and cheney with reality again. I don't think its gonna work this time.

What angst this election is! Today alone, I have wavered between "Kerry will pull it off" and "Shit, the Chimp is gonna get back in" three separate times!

Just yesterday, I was thinking Kerry landslide. What will tomorrow bring?

Whenever I ruminate on the national popular vote, particularly after hearing anything sounding like bad news, my blood pressure goes through the roof, I get a throbbing headache, and I cannot sleep. Then I find myself fishing DU and other blogs for reassurance - just so I can sleep that night.

On the flip side, anything positive makes me giddy.

Bottom line: this election is emotional for me like no other before it.

I have followed politics for 25 years. I worked for the presidential campaigns of Paul Simon in 1988 and Clinton-Gore in 1992. I remember being one bummed 17-year-old the night of Reagan's infamous 1984 49-state sweep and annoyed on the night of Bush senior's throttling of Dukakis in '88. I remember the high of being so close winning on election night 2000. We had just bagged New Mexico and California was next. Then,they took Florida off the board and nothing has been the same since. But nothing comes even close to the emotional attachment I have to the outcome of the 2004 election. Bush is a f**cking horrible president - probably worse then any of the 41 men who preceeded him. The idea that close to half of the electorate will re-endorse this steaming load of shit disgusts me, the fact that the news media is all too willing to give him every break in the book infuriates me, and the possiblity that he and his travesty of an administration could be re-elected scares me. Nothing less than our future and the reputation of our country is up for grabs. Our very honor is at stake.

I may add that I have a friend in academia whose job as political scientist is to objectively analyze the presidency and the course of presidential elections. He is cautiously optimistic that Kerry is going to win the electoral votes required to win the presidency. He is also the kind to cut through the bull and give Republican presidents their due when it is objectively called for. But he too, seems to be exhibiting levels of anxiety that I never seen from someone who is normally cool and rational in his analysis. To quote him "I have not wanted anything so badly in all my life. I am giving my last dime and spare ounce of energy to this campaign. I cannot bear to wake up to a defeat on November 3. I want this man and his administration completely repudiated for what they have done to this country."

Could not have said it better myself. It's PERSONAL this year, like no other.
