Want to Share-Ups and downs in Texas
I went to my rural "corner store" this evening. Ya'll know what I mean. All rural areas have a corner store. Where you can get gas, beer and an old fashiioned hamburber. While I was waiting for my burger, I was looking around at all the good ole boys, thinking to myself, repugs, oh vey. Good thing I kept my sneer to myself, because as I was leaving, one of the pickemup trucks parked out front was sporting a beautiful Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker. Woohoo. What a wonderful surprise. Ok, its the little things in life, you know. So I was hurrying home to share this tidbit with my DU friends, and discovered some repug had stolen my Kerry/Edwards sign I had up down at the end of my easement.

Not to worry, I had another one in my trunk, which I immediately put up. Of course I bruised my hand hammering it into the ground with a rock, but I got my sign back up DAMM IT.

Then, as if the angels knew that I was bummed, my phone rang and one of my employees called to share the good news that she had just voted, for Kerry of course. Have any of you noticed how much more exciting it is this time to VOTE? I have been voting for many many years, and this time it felt more awesome than it ever has. I have noticed that everyone that votes feels this overwhelming urge to call people and shout from the rooftops that their vote is in. I sent 4 text messages on my way home from voting.

We gotta win this.

3. I think so too
The voter turnout is amazing: Maybe up to three times what occured in the last presidential election! The trend in early voting is still more and more each day.

2. Also in Texas, stopped at "On the Run" (Exxon)
to gas up. I forgot that I had my Kerry pin on, so when the lady in the store said "Kerry, YEA!" it kind of surprised me.

I am the precinct chair for my precinct and I'll have you know that I bought and gave out four Kerry signs for neighbors on my street, and they are all proudly on display, and have been for about a two weeks, with no vandalism.

I see at least as many Kerry bumper stickers on cars around here as Bush ones. I live in the Woodlands, which in previous elections voted 75-80% Republican, but I can tell that we are definitely going to improve on that, this time. One of my dear Democratic friends(are there any other kind?) had her car keyed due to her bumper sticker, and someone peed on my drivers door. This has been reported in the local papers, so I am really proud of all of those who have had the courage not to be quiet out of fear.

7. When I went into Wattaburger after voting
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 08:30 PM by Paul_H
the girl behind the counter saw my "I VOTED!" sticker and asked who I voted for. When I said Kerry she gave me a great big smile and a thumbs up.

4. a kind of downer note
While I have had a couple of good incidents, one bad one is that where my daughter goes to school, its freeperville there, and when I back out of the parking lot after dropping her off, i get a lot of revving, impatience, and rude stares because of my sticker on the window of my car. No keying, or anything quite that bad, so far.

On a good note, I saw a young man that had to have had twelve to fifteen anti bush stickers allll over his car. You know, village missing an idiot...all that good stuff. so i felt a whole lot better, and admired the young man's courage.

11. A Better Truck Message from a Conservative friend.
I have a friend here in Houston, a Vietnam vet Conservative Republican that voted for Bush in 2000. On his truck, he painted (with white shoe polish) the following slogans:

"Bush lied, Saddam told the truth! Where are the WMD's?"

and my favorite...

"I belong to the GOP. We IMPEACH liars, remember???"

8. McKinney, TX here! Texas may surprise people this year. Unfortunately,
I think the Chimp will still get the electoral votes, but it will be shocking just how many people will vote for Kerry. Texas may be a deep purple this year! :)

9. There are a few of US out here.
I am in Frisco North of Dallas. I live in a Very Conservative neighborhood but I was pleasantly surprised to see several Kerry yard signs sprinkled about on my walks. I expected a LOT less.

My partner came home the other night and found a bag of cookies hanging from our door with a note attached from "another" Kerry supporter THANKING us for having the guts to put out a Kerry yard sign. Made my day.

12. Welcome to DU!
I live in far north Dallas, and I really didn't think my Kerry sign would last long but it's still there.

I don't dare imagine that Kerry will win Texas, but I do think the numbers are going to shake the GOP to the core.
