Zogby: Bush's presidential performance rated excellent-good by 49 percent
"It's close, it's close, it's close," pollster John Zogby said. "The candidates are locked in a dead heat among Catholics, young voters, voters over 70, men and women, and independents."

Only 4 percent of likely voters remain undecided. At this stage of the disputed 2000 election, Bush led Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites) by one point in the daily tracking poll. Bush's presidential performance was rated as excellent or good by 49 percent, while 50 percent said it was only fair or poor.

The poll of 1,206 likely voters was taken Monday through Wednesday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points. The rolling poll will continue through Nov. 1 -- the day before the election.

Kerry leads in five of the 10 battleground states surveyed in a series of Reuters/Zogby state tracking polls, with Iowa and Michigan tied. Kerry took a slim lead in the showdown state of Ohio and held his lead in Pennsylvania, while Bush leads Kerry in Florida. The results in all three of the biggest toss-up states were within the poll's margin of error.

PS: Last night on Bernie Ward's KGO Radio show, he expressed the opinion that if the 400 tons o "missing" ammo stays at the top of the headlines until Tuesday and / or gets WORSE, it will be the issue that will tip the "undecideds" in Kerry's favor. Ward said that 100% of what Bush has been running on is "Vote for me, I'll keep you safe"...which he hasn't done...and people are slowly starting to realize that their sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, brothers & sisters are over in Iraq getting slaughtered with OUR OWN AMMO due to Junior's incompetence.

He said that the Washington Post is publishing story by ONE Bush Administration advisor who "thinks" the Russians took the ammo out before the U.S. occupation of Iraq and warned of the possibility that Bush /Cheney may try to "piggy-back" WMD claims on top of this ("The Russians removed the WMD when they removed the ammo")...

This is going to be interesting.

2. What a crock of steaming...........
49% rate Smirk as excellent or good?

The Smirk supporters I know are embarrassed to support him and say he has fucked up royally, but they hate Kerry, so they're going to reluctantly vote for Smirk.

3. Blame it on the Russians ?
Did not Putin endorse bush. Now I know why, they like us having a dumb ass in the White House ! When respect for us goes down in the world, the ruskies reap the benifits. We should make as much politicial hay out of this as possible !

5. The Economist respondents disagree with the Zogby respondents
How are things going in US? 38 Satisfied, 58 dissatisfied
How is Bush handling his job as President? Approve 43, Disapprove 54.

7. approval rating this high means a bad sample
49% is way too high

compare to Economist's 54% DIS-approval rating, also look at Kerry's lead in this poll 49% to 45% with a much lower MOE
