Time for Repukes to Start Jumping Ship -- Who do we let on the lifeboat?
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 02:24 PM by IdaBriggs
Realistically, Republicans as a party are going to be out of power for the next eight years (YEAH!) but (I know this is heresy to some) there are possibly a few who are decent human beings, right? (I hope, but am not as confident as I was six months ago!)

So, I post this question for discussion: after one of the nastiest campaigns in history, WHO SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO COME ABOARD?

BONUS NASTY: Who gets to have their career destroyed so totally they are never allowed to even think about public service EVER AGAIN? What would some of the more hateful folks have to do before they should be allowed anywhere near a cable talk show ever again?

Let me start with Giulliani: APOLOGIZE TO THE TROOPS IMMEDIATELY, YOU SELF SERVING CRETIN!!!

NOTE: Be creative; perhaps those who feel the impending chill of career doom may be "encouraged" by your words of wisdom to renounce the dark side -- hey, if it worked for Darth Vader....

ON EDIT: First five replies are HARSH!!! This is NOT your "old" wimpy Democratic party -- apparently WE ARE PISSED OFF and unwilling to show ANY MERCY! Woah! Its kind of cool...:)

8. I'm with you on this...
Many Republicans knew what was going on with the Bushistas drive for power and riches, but said and did nothing...

It all begins to make sense...
I remember during the primary season of Election2000 the GOP hopefuls were lining up to do the campaign thing, like debates. All of them EXCEPT ONE: George W. Bush. As I recall correctly, he stayed out of a lot of the events expected of the candidates then, and I wondered "Why?" Now I know: the fix was in. And all the GOP candidates did too, but went along with the Bushistas anyway.

They have been whoring for him ever since, all so they can get a piece of the "action."

F*CK YOU, GOP!!! If you were drowning, I might throw you an anchor. I might....

11. Here's how you can recognize a Republican who does NOT deserve a break:
Within minutes of his or her arrival on the scene, you are being thrown back on your heels -- accused of not being "bipartisan," of holding grudges, of being hypocritical to your own "let's all get along" philosophy, etc.

In other words, they will have YOU apologizing to THEM.

Don't fall for it.

They will kill us with our own kindness, if given half the chance.

Give yourself permission to cut that person out of the picture entirely, and move on to someone who is sincere in their willingness to move forward and undo the damage of the past.

Let's not let our guard down too soon.

13. Be honest, there are a few who are okay
The few remaining RINOs in the Senate - McCain, Hagel, Specter, Chafee, Snow & Collins from Maine. Also Bill Cohen, since he's an honorary D after working for Clinton. That's all I can think of. None of those partisan hacks in the House are worth saving. I'd like to personally shove Rick Santorum off the boat and cause a big splash! Ha!

Nobody said Vader would have walked away clean if he'd lived. He took part in the murders of millions.

The carnage that * unleashed has splashed far and wide. All of his people have the blood of innocents on their hands.

43. We must realize, win or lose, that we are going into full scale
political warfare over the next four months. It will be necessary, on our part, to cut away at the roots of the Republican party so deeply that its sickly form finally dies and the moderate reasonable party we once knew and still disliked but could respect can re-emerge.

17. Take the ones that will swear allegiance to Cthulhu
Realistically:

Republicans will control the House of Representatives and likely the Senate. As long as they hold single party sway over so many state governments, they will Gerrymander themselves as long lived a House Majority as the Democrats held (mostly) from the 30s to the 90s.

So, I don't know whether ANY Republicans are TRULY going to jump ship. They may want to be rid of the Chimp for inter-party purposes, particularly since they know they will hold on to the House. Once the Chimp is back in Crawford, they will still flex their Congressional Power, only they will be able to attack a Democratic President.

Regardless of the winner next week, we are going to continue this spiral downwards into a cesspool. There is indeed a new un-Civil War, and nobody's surrendering any time soon.

18. I'm in for hell then on this one but.....
I believe Kerry needs to appoint some Republicans to his cabinet. I believe he needs to make it IMPOSSIBLE for Rethugs to do to him what they did to Clinton. And he needs to tell America it is time to stop hating, by default, the President who is not from your party. He needs to be a true unifier. We cannot as a nation continue the pattern of the last two presidencies.

Rethugs will already face a civil war if Shrub loses, to not distinguish between Republicans that were at a minimum civil (I'm thinking for example of Hagel in Nebraska) and ones like Delay only unifies them when we could split them.

If we refuse to distinguish the Rethugs that (for example in the Senate) refused to convict Clinton and those that have done anything they can to burry us Kerry and America will be the losers. It's exactly how Bush has strengthened the conservative crazies in the Mid-East with his aggressive policies.

40. I disagree, and this is why
Clinton and the entire Democratic Party tried the "let's all get along, let's compromise" approach and the Republicans tore him to pieces anyway.

Clinton was a fiscally conservative president who did a number of things that made me wince as a liberal, but I went along at the time because I thought that was the way to get some positive changes made. I was a sucker.

We saved a few hundred million by throwing a lot of people off welfare, and did that gain us the respect and appreciation of the Republicans? It did not. They still describe Clinton as the devil incarnate and we're still the wimpy liberal party that can't add. And then the ^&%$ wasted hundreds of billions on an unnecessary war. &*&^ em.

It's time for us to go for the whole loaf instead of accepting half a loaf. They're going to accuse us us stealing five loaves anyway.

42. I think these are valid arguments. And I don't have an answer
other than to say I'm tired of the way it's going. I really do dream of a President that can unify the country. I know nobody is ever going to like everything the guy does but I am sick to death of people HATING a President because he is of the opposite party (vs. me, who hates Bush because of what he is and what he does and what he believes).

There will be a civil war inside the Rethuglican party if Shrub goes down, and the bigger he goes down the bigger the civil war. Whatever strategy works (and I'm open to debating what that might be) we don't want to do something that makes it easier for them to stay unified. I just believe that reaching out to the moderates is the right thing to do (smart? I don't know). Remember, there were Republicans who voted innocent in the Senate - who DIDN'T go after the man. We still need to look at individuals first, what they do, not their party affiliation. I have confidence however that Kerry is smart enough to figure out whether it is you, or me, who is right on this one, and do it!

http://www.startribune.com/stories/1519/5029512.html

Throughout my tenure and beyond as the 30th governor of this state, I have been steadfastly aligned -- and until recently, proudly so -- with the Minnesota Republican Party.

It dismays me, therefore, to have to publicly disagree with the national Republican agenda and the national Republican candidate but, this year, I must.

The two "Say No to Bush" signs in my yard say it all.

When he exploited their deaths at the RNC - when he told of seeing the people jumping to their deaths from the WTC, and then he turned to Kerik and said "thank god George Bush is our president" and then he proceeded to crack flip-flopping JOKES it was the most disgusting performance I have ever seen in my life and he should not be allowed to walk the streets of New York and if I ever see him doing so I promise you I will spit in his face.
