The Right Wing's Sad Attack on Dr. Dean
This is really a desperate smear, it's weak, convoluted and probably will find its way on to next week's Glenn Beck show.

"The New York City district council president of a union that recently backed Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean has publicly endorsed socialism at a national conference of the Workers World Party."

2. His own party does as much.
I expected this from the GOP, but he has been fighting off attacks from all over.

He will survive it, he is very tough. Read his op ed in the WP tonight.

3. Wow, now, this is a stretch
Am I missing something?
A giant union endorsed Howard Dean.
One leader of the union, who may or may not have a say in national endorsements, is a socialist.

This matters? Melanie Hunter is red-baiting in 2003 because....?

Thanks for the post.

4. I have a dumb question for them
And without even looking at the link, I have no doubt they're trying to smear Dean, but even so, here's the question:

What is it about socialism that's so wrong?

6. OOoh, but socialism -- that's communism!
Are you now or have you ever been? Better dead than red!

(Sorry. I have actually heard this as an argument from someone. He couldn't tell me what was the matter with -- or even define -- communism or socialism.)

7. Neo-cons are always looking backward
So they are like the mythical Japanese man when he was rescued from his island in the 1960's still thought WW2 was going on.

The poor neocons have not been rescued from their island, so they think they are still fighting the Cold War and the evil Commies (I am aware their are vast differences between Socialism and Communism, but your average neocon, thinks they're all the same).

8. Yes, socialism is the same as communism
They both promise more dignity to the average working person. This is highly offensive the the neo-cons, who see themselves as an elite destined to carry out history's mandate.

9. Yeah, you're right on that score
But it's sometimes good to stop them in their tracks and make them answer the question. They work from a starting point that assumes all Americans believe socialism is completely discredited and evil and all that sort of thing. Take the premise from which they launch their attacks, and let 'em know it's bunk.

Besides, there's nothing I'd like better than to take someone like Sean Hannity's bank acount and distribute it to the needy. No one can take my daydreams from me.

Read the hundreds of posts here at this (alleged) "progressive, pro -Democtrat" forum.

In fact, the wingnuts probably get most of the hate stuff FROM here...I know they are laughing their ass off at FR.

Stick around, and you'll hear snippets of threads posted here read on the Rush Limbaugh and Hannity shows. I expect next week he'll have a discussion re Dean's wife, lifted right from DU.

Lot's of "progressives" here (mostly Clark and Kerry supporters) doing the pigman's work for him.

Nice "backdoor" post though...
