How much is the Bush tax cut costing you?
This is from the DFA site. I'm in Michigan where things are mighty tight. Here is what Dean's site says about Bush's wealthy-fare tax cut costs the average Michigander:

Michigan

The people of Michigan are paying more in taxes and it's George Bush's fault.

Here are some examples of the Bush Tax in Michigan:

Property Taxes Rise: Property taxes increased 7.6% from 2001 to 2002, amounting to an additional $782 million paid by all Michigan taxpayers. This overall increase is equivalent to $207 per household.*

College Costs Skyrocket: For the 2003-04 academic year , tuition increased $632 (9.9%) at Michigan State University, $849 (12.9%) at Michigan Technological University, $490 (6.5%) at the University of Michigan, and $551 (11.7%) at Wayne State University. <“Changes in Annual Tuition and Fees Charges at NASULGC Institutions,” National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, 11/14/03 >

Continuing Pressures on School Funding: Reductions in the state’s school-aid budget are forcing the state to consider cutting back on $55 million in special state grants to 52 Michigan schools. <“Top-Spending Districts Fear $55 Million Aid Cut,” Detroit News, 12/2/2003>

Fees for High School Sports: Fees are being instituted in many school districts to participate in school sports. In Brighton, high school students have to pay $175 to play in two sports. Fees for parking, school lunches, and admission to sporting events are also on the rise. <“Area School Fees Going Up,” The Ann Arbor News, 9/26/03>

Auto Fees Increase: Driver’s license fees are nearly doubling to $25. Renewal fees are increasing from $13 to $18. Dealer licensing fees will go up more than seven fold. <“Cash-Strapped State to Raise Driver’s License, State ID Fees,” The Michigan Daily, 9/30/03 >

But we get an extra $28 in our pay per month! It looks like a very expensive $28.

Find out about your state:

1. Fees, taxes
Michigan has a history of screwing their citizens no matter who is in the Whitehouse with fees and taxes which are the same. I would worry more about what it is going to cost to educate Illegal Aliens children because it is not going to cost them anything.

3. Nonsense
Our federal funding is down and unfunded mandates are up. After 12 years of Rethug rule it's a mess to begin with.

Our local property taxes have gone up more in the past couple of years than in a long time so Engler could revel in his state tax cuts. That asshole.

We still have unfunded Special Ed, No child left behind, hikes in education costs due to cuts in funding and the list goes on and on.

I've lived here all my life and can tell you this is awful. We have an over 1 billion dollar deficit.

You get less money from Washington for the state and local needs you will pay it to state and local entities instead. Only Bush's tax cuts result in higher costs than most of us realize in increased local taxes and fees.

Are you a Michigander by chance? If so what region of the state are you in? I'm up by the pinky of the mitten. :-)

5. Are you a Michigander by chance. Thank God, NO!
Michigan is a culture of professional victims and people that depend on other people doing something for them. My X in-laws live there and I remember the first time they picked us up at the Wayne County Airport. Driving home the mother-in-law (Satan) said she did no understand why the car companies don`t fix the roads. My brother in law told me when I asked about why a federal housing project was boarded up that looked relatively new that the occupants had wrecked it. Driving on down the street at asked what this stately looking building was on a hill. He said it was a Veterans hospital. Then he said "Another drain on my wallet! I wanted to kill him. This bum never had a job except doing work my wife's father created. My X wife's father was wealthy a staunch democrat and very intelligent. He often said he should of left Michigan years ago because of the taxes the state puts on the residents but if he left the brother-in-law would starve to death or return to a life of crime. He was terminal at the time and was often thinking about how much Michigan was going to charge him to die.

2. Lots of little things
Lots of little things, like cutting back on trash pick-up.

And this big thing:
Property Taxes Soar: Property taxes in Dallas went up 27.5% from 2001 to 2003, amounting to an average increase of $749 per household. Property taxes in Houston went up 25.5% from 2001 to 2003, amounting to an average increase of $543 per household.

4. Re: How much is the Bush tax cut costing you?
Should Dean win the nomination... does he have a plan to force my republican governor to reduce all of the fees. Our state's still a couple of billion short this year.
