Dean, Clark in tight race in California; Clark does best against Bush
The nonpartisan Field Poll released Friday showed Dean with 25 percent support among likely voters in the state's March 2 Democratic presidential primary, with Clark a close second at 20 percent.

Meanwhile, the poll showed California voters are divided over whether to re-elect Bush, with 46 percent inclined to vote in favor of re-election while 47 percent saying no. In the 2000 presidential election, Republican Bush lost badly to Democratic Vice President Al Gore in California, winning just 40 percent of the vote.

In hypothetical matchups between Bush and individual Democrats, the poll showed Bush with a slight edge over all the candidates. For example, Bush would beat Dean 47 to 43 percent, according to the poll; he would beat Clark 43 to 41 percent.

2. Thanks for good news about Clark in CA!!
It's going to be work and money for us to keep California, Democratic. We need to be prepared for this. Apparently arnold is popular with the idiot vote and he has coat-tails.

3. I'm amazed at this
Clark does not have a strong organization in California yet. I see lots of Kucinich and Dean bumperstickers, but few Clark. If he's doing this well, then as the organization gets going I think he can win California. Dean's stance on guns and weak environmental record will hurt him here. Also, Californians appear to prefer non-politicians.

is the best bet to beat Bush in the heavyweight champion state of electoral politics

those who take California for granted as a blue state should take a look at the recent recall numbers
