Man commits suicide at Ground Zero
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/newyork/nyc-suic1107,0,2157220,print.story?coll=ny-nynews-headlines

Distraught over the re-election of President George W. Bush, a Georgia man traveled to New York City, went to Ground Zero and killed himself with a shotgun blast, police said yesterday.

The suicide victim, Andrew Veal, 25, was discovered just before 8 a.m. yesterday when a worker for the Millennium Hotel looking at Ground Zero from an upper floor saw a man lying atop the concrete structure through which the 1 and 9 subway lines run.

The worker, thinking the man was sleeping, alerted colleagues and the Port Authority police were notified.

But when they got to Veal's body, they realized he had killed himself with a shot to the head from a .12-gauge shotgun.

No suicide note was found, but according to a Port Authority police source, family members said Veal, a registered Democrat, was despondent over Bush's defeat of Sen. John Kerry. A second source said Veal, who lived in Athens, Ga., and worked for the University of Georgia, was also adamantly opposed to the war in Iraq.

7. Nice.
Thanks for diagnosing his mental health for us. Otherwise I would have assumed he was depressed or something. Nice call.

11. You said he was perfectly healthy
you might have meant physically, but emotionally he obviously was anything but healthy.

12. Maybe thats why he did it
Maybe he felt like there were too few people in this world who would feel sympathetic.

I can't imagine the depth of sadness or despondency someone would have to feel to kill themselves, but I would hazard a guess that it had to be profound.

For that reason alone, I have nothing but sympathy for him.

15. here is a thought
Anyone who completes suicide is NOT healthy! Despair and depression are as real as a broken leg and sometimes, more painful! We don't know all the reasons this man chose what he did, but some compassion for a fallen person would be more in order, in my opinion.

17. You should have stopped at "I have little sympathy"
Obviously you have no empathy either. Must be nice to feel so superior and secure that you will never have to concern yourself with the possibility of knowing what overwhelming dispair and the deep ache of unbearable pain feels like. 'Helped the republicans', how selfish you are.
Yep you're so all together and "in touch" aren't ya:eyes:

this is bad. Listen, I went over to BBC again, and they have NOTHING, absolutely nothing on voter fraud and the anger & hostility people are feeling. Instead, they have an article on Rove. They do have a 'Have Your Say' section. One topic is, "What would you like to see President Bush do?" I wrote, die.

Depression is the most lifethreatning of mental diseases.

The news account does not give any detales about the weapon. I wonder who 'owned' it, if the victom,. how it was transported to New York, if not the victom, how or where he got it, and how it was transported through the strees of New York City with their stringent gun control laws. Just wondering...
