So you like the electoral college eh? That's too bad. It seems blue states lost EC power to themz southerners. Gee...THEY are they fastest growing places huh? They must get MORE of a say in the DEMOCRACY we live in then!........not so fast amigo.

I say amigo for a reason you infer. Yes, the dirty lil secret of the south is that on their lil Census counting heads scheme , they count them lil brown people as "People" to get more VOTING power......yet when it comes down to Voting..Themz "Brown People" don't get to vote.

Why you ask? Because they are not citizens.

So the south counts "brown people" to get voting power, but then turn around and not give those people a vote. Thus DOUBLING the power of the .....well...REAL PEOPLE of America............ugh

It's sad indeed, but hey, no one will say anything about it.

I have no links, no proof even.......it just seems obvious to me, that's all.

I'm gonna guess that it would make a difference in the Southwest and Florida. But if every single Hispanic in NC, for example, registered to vote, they would _rarely_ swing an election. Maybe the occasional close statewide race, but only every few years, and in that case, you could point to any one group - blacks, young people, farmers, one-legged jugglers - and say they made the difference.

back in the not-so-good-old days, slaves were counted as part of the south's population but were not allowed to vote. This is the reason that those monstrous aristocratic crackers pushed for the Electoral College back then. Lovely, isn't it?

Maybe in Florida and Texas, and also blue California. I have researched this very topic, and I don't think most southern states have enough Hispanics to make a difference in the electoral college. Heck, you might look to Illinois or New Jersey, first. The sun belt is gaining electoral votes because Northerners are moving here in droves.

Bring some proof, then we'll talk.

what proof you have that Northerners are moving "here" (I assume your talking about the sun belt)?

Seems Arizona is mightily red. Either red people are leaving the north to go there, which isn't happening, because the % in voting parties is about the same as it was 4 years ago, or it's not happening. Or, Blue people are leaving the blue states and voting red in the red states.

I don't have statistics, but I live in North Carolina and half of the people I know are transplants, my own family included. My church is full of New Yorkers. Also, party ID has little to do with people moving in or out. Plenty of people from both parties move down South, and plenty of people in the South are changing their registration to Republican.

What I'm saying is pretty well documented. You're making grandiose claims about something that, while may make the GOP look bad, seems to me to be incredibly unlikely.

I imported a Southern husband, and he's found other imported Southerners all over this corner of Pennsylvania. I met people from Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia at the town Democratic Club picnic.

On edit, we travel up and down 95 and 81 a lot. The Carolinas and, to a lesser extent, Virginia have lots of Mexicans around, from what I've seen at gas stations and similar pit stops, and I just don't see any in Pennsylvania. Hispanics here tend to be Puerto Ricans, who are U.S. citizens.

disenfranchisement based on criminal history is a load of crock. sure, it sells better than voting rights based on race, but we all know what's going on. there's NO good reason for a 60 year old with a 40 year old possession conviction not to be able to vote.

IIRC, hisp. about ten percent. Correct me if wrong. Some legal to be sure.. but the illegals, and those here legally but not yet citizens, very large!

Ignore those who claim hispanics are tiny factor. Very wrong. Look also at how many radio stations are for just them. In spanish.

Also, vote by those who are citizens, is squashed by the gop, using such methods as vote roll challenges, line challenges, few polling places in latino areas, few machines in those polls, etc.

They were 12.3% in the last census and Blacks were 12.5% but by Febuary 2003 they were declaired the largest minority by the census department.
