Monday is being called "Stop Gonzales Day".
Groups are talking about getting all their members to make massive numbers of calls and faxes to all members of the judiciary committee and their Senators. The idea is to change the momemtum so that, instead of letting him slide, the Senators will worry about their own careers if they don't filibuster.

3. Gonzales will make you wish for the days of Ashcroft.
Democratic groups will call because their members love their children and don't want them sent to the torture camps.

4. It is not a
"waste of time" to let your elected representatives know that you are paying attention, watching what they are doing and have strong feelings about public policy. We need to "bother" much much more to take time to let our Dem reps and senators hear from us. We need to be on their asses on every single odious appointment and issue.

Will they do what we want? Only when they start hearing from us BETWEEN elections. How would they know that they would have support for fighting bad appointments and policies if we are lethargic and don't tell them? How would they know their caving pisses us off so very much, if we don't tell them?

They need to be reminded daily that 55+ million voted against the policies of the GOP and warned that there is a growing anti-incumbent sentiment out here. If they fail to act like Democrats, they can be replaced in their next primaries by real Democrats. They could lose to votes against them from their own party members, and not even reach the next election, if they don't shape up and act like Democrats goddammit.

Sorry, but the attitude, "why bother" really stinks.

"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." Thomas Jefferson

5. I will be calling on Monday
I have been calling them for two weeks, asking them to do the right thing and put Consigliere Gonzalez though the ringer in the hearings and vote unanimously against him in Committee. He's nothing but a criminal after all. It's absurd to even consider using kid glove treatment on a stone-hearted criminal who advocates the use of torture on others.

I've also nagged the DNC, the DLC, the 527s etc to get together and distill a short, powerful list of clear talking points as to why they are doing what they are doing.

Then, to take that list and give the marching order to their so-called talking heads, who manage to get on the teevee, to fan out and repeat the points, without deviation, over and over and over again.

BTW, I think a huge part of the problem with the spineless "librul" talking heads is that they are afraid to tell it like it is because they might not be invited back to the toob. Well now, if ALL of them were hammering the same points, using the same words, would they all suddenly be banished from the invite list? It would take a while for the cable moguls to catch on, meanwhile the values of the Dems would be showing in living rooms and being written about in newspapers across the country.
