1. And every democratic senator should stand in protest with him
Not one reason in the world why they all can't. Can u imagine if this happened to the Republicans? They would be united screaming about voter fraud. Yet we have to beg for just one? How can voters believe democrats will fight for them, if they can't even do this? Alot at stake here. They are either fighters or they're not. And I agree with you, if they aren't fighters, why back them anymore?

2. y'know, i'd have more faith in Jim Jefforts stepping up.
for some reason, i think almost all the dem senators are just really that spineless to this issue.

whatever, it was only our constitution and sanctity of our nation for over 230 years... it's time to meet the voters halfway to the right, right?

if they drop this ball may they sit and spin... and if they're unlucky they might end up sitting and spinning in gitmo with this coup d'etat.

3. stop with the "balls" stuff
if you haven't noticed, the overwhelming majority of Congress is "with balls". We need someone with COURAGE.

4. Well said.
I do tire of the "male sexual characteristics = courageous & tough," "lack of male or presence of femaile sexual characteristics = cowardly & weak" assumptions in descriptions. It would be a good thing to rethink language use sometimes. The words have meaning, sometimes beyond what is consciously intended.

5. I've seen females using that terminology in the DU
it's bad enough when so-called Democratic men do it

6. Call it what you want, do they have the guts to stand up or not?
simple question, simple answer. Do they have the courage, the character, the guts, whatever, to stand up for what's right. Yes or No? We will find out 1/5/05 for sure.

10. Yes, our culture is saturated with it.
You hear it all of your life, you find yourself expecting it, even using it yourself without realizing it. It's a habit we need to break, just like I broke my habit of thoughtlessly using bad language all the time when my daughter was a baby.

The fact is, the words do have power, and this kind of sexist language absolutely reinforces the ugly stereotypes that most reasonable people would say they reject. The words DO count. I hate to be Word Police, but perhaps we need to do what you did in this thread more often on the DU board. If we are careful and not shrill about it, maybe we can convince some people to think twice about using that language.
