"The greatest source of America’s generosity is not our government"
WASHINGTON - President Bush on Monday named former Presidents Clinton and Bush to lead a nationwide charitable fund-raising effort for victims of the Asian tsunamis.

"The greatest source of America’s generosity is not our government," Bush said at a news conference at the Roosevelt Room, with his two immediate predecessors at his side. "It’s the … heart of the American people."

The two men are to lead an effort to encourage the American people and American businesses to support, through private contributions, non-governmental and international organizations relief and reconstruction to areas devastated by the tsunamis, Bush said.

"In the coming days, Presidents Clinton and Bush will ask Americans to donate directly to reliable charities already providing help to tsunami victims," Bush said. "I've asked the former presidents to solicit contributions both large and small."

LIke all republicans, Bush tells us government isn't very good and then through his own craven incompetence makes it so.

4. The government is VERY generous
to defense contractors, multinational agribusiness, oil companies and billionaires in need of a tax cut.
Not generous if you are unemployed or in need of health insurance.

5. I Donated To Relief Efforts Because It Was My Duty, Not
I donated to tsunami relief efforts (US Fund for UNICEF and Oxfam) because I felt it was my duty to G*d and as a fellow human being, not because I support either the Rulin' Dubya Posse's or the Banana Republicans' agendas. To use the generosity of individual Americans and private organizations as a rationale for pinching pennies for federal tsunami relief efforts is yet another d*mning example of the incumbent administration's moral hypocricy.

I think that our actions on such things as tsunami relief and war relief will weigh more heavily in the balance when we give an accounting of our lives' works than who we were fooling around with and how when we face our Maker.
