White House refuses to release Gonzales torture memos
And they aren't even trying to offer a legal excuse like executive privilege. They are just refusing to release them.

WASHINGTON - Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzales' confirmation hearing this week may become more contentious because the White House has refused to provide copies of his memos on the questioning of terror suspects.

"We go into the hearing with some knowledge of what has occurred because of press reports or leaks but without the hard evidence that will either exonerate or implicate Judge Gonzales in this policy," complained Sen. Richard Durbin of Illinois, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat, on Monday.

Durbin, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, says the White House has refused to give those memos to Democrats so they can determine exactly how the policies were crafted.

"We asked them to produce the memos that they have and can release that were given to Judge Gonzales or were generated by him, and so far they have not claimed executive privilege but have refused to produce this documentation," Durbin said.

5. What exactly is the problem? Do you mean to say that the that there is a
problem with the US AG saying that torture is not torture unless it causes major organ failure and the person inflicting it has to intend it to be torture? This is just another example of faith based Mis Administration by aWoL & Co.

6. They will release the memos the day after Gonzales is formally appointed
at exactly the point at which it's too late to oppose him.

It's not a new tactic.

7. Dems have no courage!
All of the Dems in Congress should hold a protest outside at this outrage! Anyone in Conress that votes for this guy that facilitated sadism and torture is a traitor to America!

The very freakin' least all Dems that get a vote on the AG appointment can do is vote: NO!

If they don't then they do not deserve to be in Congress.
