Fake Turkey! Why not ask America about it in the Pres. debates?

On edit. It was fake and the Dems could have won on this symbol alone.

The Bird Was Perfect But Not For Dinner
In Iraq Picture, Bush Is Holding the Centerpiece

By Mike Allen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, December 4, 2003; Page A33

President Bush's Baghdad turkey was for looking, not for eating.

In the most widely published image from his Thanksgiving day trip to Baghdad, the beaming president is wearing an Army workout jacket and surrounded by soldiers as he cradles a huge platter laden with a golden-brown turkey.

The bird is so perfect it looks as if it came from a food magazine, with bunches of grapes and other trimmings completing a Norman Rockwell image that evokes bounty and security in one of the most dangerous parts of the world.

But as a small sign of the many ways the White House maximized the impact of the 21/2-hour stop at the Baghdad airport, administration officials said yesterday that Bush picked up a decoration, not a serving plate.

The one on the plate is reported to be fake. Come to think of it I guess the smiling one is fake too.

3. That turkey in the ARMY jacket is all too real, but in a fake sorta way
As for the bird, I recall it being referred to as plastic, but I always took that to mean as it was done up for the photo op and wasn't meant for consumption. That it was set aside and NOT fed to anyone. Although it looks real, I could believe that it was a fako too.

6. According to previous news reports...
... it was not a real turkey. It was a display model as used in grocery stores and delis and was brought on the plane from the US. True or not, I dunno.

The guy holding the platter looks like a real turkey, though. :P

9. I remember when the photo was first published
and i thought "Gee,* is pretty strong." I thought this because his elbows were too far away from his body to be carrying a 20-25 pound bird. I was mad because the reports were that he spent a large portion of his day in the WH gym. And then when I found out it was a fake. I was mad all over again.

10. Aside from the two turkeys
What strikes me is how much worse he looks just over a year later. The lest side of his face is not drooping like it is now. The man is not well I tells ya.

13. Because the MSM would have said he was rallying the troops.
Followed by "Why do you hate the troops?"

12. wasn't it like 3;00 AM in Iraq?
I seem to recall reading that they woke up the soldiers so the photo op would be on the news as families were eating in the US. The turkey certainly was fake, I do remember that part.

14. "Dems could have won on this symbol alone"
If you believe that, I suggest that you reevaluate the types of issues that resound with the average voter.

The chances of a fake turkey swinging the election were approximately the same as the chances of Bush telling the truth about Iraq.
