I figure it costs them at least $5.00 to process a donation so I regularly contribute. Here is the letter I recieved from them today.
Dear Mr. Guaverra,

Thank you for your donation of $0.01 to continue
your support of The Presidential Prayer Team.

You will receive a receipt in the mail within 7 to 10 days
which you may use for tax purposes. You should receive your new
PPT Membership Card within 4 to 6 weeks.

such as yourself, Mr. Guaverra, and we are so blessed to have,
you as a partner!

Oh, and for anyone that want's to comment on the fact that "Guaverra" is spelled incorrectly, I know and it's on purpose.

In Ben Franklins day a penny would buy something. In fact, when I was a kid, a penney would buy something. Today, they can't even make pennies out of copper because the copper is worth more than the coin. Sad, but that's what happens wher repukes are in charge.

You're right that they take a hit on this particular transaction, but you're overestimating the amount.

Credit card companies charge their merchants a tiny amount per credit transaction. While the charge is greater than a penny, it is far less than $5.00. It's somewhere between a nickle and a quarter, if I remember correctly.
