Books on running a campaign
Looking for some advise. I'm in the early stages of looking at a local campaign. I have found some books and would like to see if anyone has used them and what you thought.

How to Run for Local Office : A Complete, Step-By-Step Guide that Will Take You Through the Entire Process of Running and Winning a Local Election - Robert J. Thomas;

Winning Local and State Elections by Ann Beaudry

Campaign Strategies and Message Design : A Practitioner's Guide from Start to Finish by Mary Anne Moffitt

Campaign Craft: The Strategies, Tactics, and Art of Political Campaign Management
Revised and Expanded Edition by Daniel M. Shea

Or, are there others that are better?

2. Don't know about those books but,
there's a great first-person account by a guy named Dan Lynch, called "Running with the Machine". Lynch was a journalist who retired and ran for an Assembly Seat in upstate NY (Albany area). You'll be prepared for anything after reading his book: Politics in NY is rather dirty!

I helped run a County Executive race two years ago. I can give you two pieces of advice:

1) Come up with three promises, one sentence long each, and put them on the cover of your campaign materials.

2) Go door-to-door as much as you can. Some people are rude, but most appreciate you making the effort. (Watch out for lonely little old ladies who like to chat).
