Boxer leaning "No" on Gonzalez for AG
"well the ethnicity of a individual doesn't weigh in here, what is important to me is that the person is the right person, and I am very troubled by his record if you will on the whole issue of torture and trying to come up with a rationale..."

1. She is locking up the left wing of the party
By 2008, this woman will have a LOT of support for a Presidential nomination from the left.

Just to add, I have no idea if she even has Presidential ambitions. I've been very impressed with her, but I'm still pretty ignorant of her record.

3. I hope she brings some people with her
Gonzalez is an evil piece of shit, who unfortunately will also be approved. Again, some Senators could still send a message.

I hate it how Bush nominates the most evil people he can and who just happen to be of color (purely by birth) so that if someone votes against them, that person can be labelled a racist. Goddamn it!

4. A "no" isn't good enough. This is why we need a filibuster.

The racism is the reason we need a DNC chairman who is a minority.

6. perhaps so,
but as Gonzalez and Powell and Rice prove a minority for minority sake isn't the answer.

adding full quote

Armando: Senator, on that point, this is something that struck me because the same argument was used for Alberto Gonzales. I've been following the Gonzales story very closely, and it is my view that his confirmation should be opposed. Now, you are a Senator for California, which has a large Latino population, have you made up your mind on the issue as yet, and what is your take so far with regards to Mr. Gonzales?

Senator BOXER: Well, the ethnicity of an individual doesn't weigh in here. What is important to me is that the person is the right person, and I am very troubled by his record, if you will, on the whole issue of torture and trying to come up with a rationale. So I would say I am leaning no on him at this point because I saw those pictures and they haunt me. I'll never get them out of my mind, and I couldn't even sit and watch all of them. So that's there. But I want to stick to stick to the Dr. Rice subject because I think that this New York Times piece is exactly proving the point that I've been making, which is that people in this administration just say, 'Well, this is what we did and we did it and we are strong and, if it goes wrong, that's life.' That is just not right, because as I say, I have the most people killed --a quarter of those who have died in Iraq come from my state -- and I can not let this thing go. So, I am prepared to stay as long as it takes at the hearing to ask as many questions necessary. I have documented a number of Dr. Rice's misstatements, partial truths, falsities, and times that she absolutely should have known, and I believe knew, that she wasn't being straight with the American people. I have it all documented and I am going to be presenting all of this at the hearing. I'm actually telling you I haven't done any interviews on this at all, but I'm telling you that I am using her own words. I'm not getting anything but her own words and dates, times and places that she looked at the camera and told the American people things that were just not true, and I have the proof of that.

10. You go girl!
Why aren't the rest of the Democrats like her? That is precisely what we need...someone with enough courage and conviction to look the devil in the eye and spit in it!

7. Brava, Madame!
BTW, she would not be doing this without the (silent) approval of the leadership, who will, of course, appear to be "cooperative." I think we actually have some fighting spirit and some well-needed guile and sneakiness in there now.

8. Go Boxer go, thank you so much for standing up for your ethics
even though you risk political dismemberment. People have to stand and risk all or positive change won't happen. Thank you so very much.

13. I wish to hell the Dems
would hang together and vote their concience (vote NO!!), and then MAYBE there would be some room for some moderate repubs to join in. There is no chance of it when the Dems roll over and won't even do the right thing.
