I met Howard Dean tonight.
He came to speak in Lexington tonight for the Change for Kentucky group. It was a small crowd of only about 300 people, and the event was short, but it was very inspiring.

Dean hit everything right on about Dems standing up for themselves again, fighting for health care, gay rights, etc... We'd be nuts not to elect this guy DNC chair.

And that's another thing. If anyone can clue me in on who votes on such a thing, i'd like to know. I've been really curious.

Then he began to leave, and I was on the opposite side of the room from the aisle he was walking in. So I jumped out of my chair (and I think I trampled on my friend) and sprinted to him before he left and got him to autograph his book "Winning Back America."

It was way cool. He's a lot shorter than I thought. I mean I knew he was short. Maybe it's just because I'm so tall.

I really love him. I would have gladly given up a Howard Dean autograph tonight for a Howard Dean inauguration three days ago.

1. It should of been him ...not Kerry
He would of contested the Ohio voting fraud better.

4. And he would have been humiliated and dismissed
just like he was during the primaries. Not that Dean would make a lousy president or anything, I'm not saying that. He just would have been a baffoon in the public's eyes if he had been in the situation that you suggest and acted as you suggest.

Sad, but true.

7. or maybe he would have responded to each and every lie
after having so many lies exposed, you never know how the american people would have reacted. one thing the american people do NOT like is to be lied to and made fools of. i think dean could have handled that quite easily. but the so-called democratic movers and shakers had other ideas. and we see what that got us.

but still, it was nice having the false dean meme repeated here yet once again.

11. He could have responded but no one would have heard it
WE don't control the media, remember? Same thing that people complained about with Kerry and Edwards. They couldn't get in front of a camera to speak for nothing!

I'm not dis-ing Dean at all. They would have just made more of a caricature of him than they did any of the other candidates (except maybe equal with the way the treated Sharpton).

If he could have stood up to the "fraud" issue then he could have debunked the "screamer" moniker and won the primaries.

They made him a joke, not us. I happen to like the man and agree with a lot of his platform.

I hope he does win Chair of the party.

Doesn't change my opinion that they would have made him the Bozo in the previous scenario.

12. You know, you have to stop and think about something
No matter what the media does, a certain amount of "the truth" still squeeks through, still reaches some people.

That was true with Gore, whom the media made mincemeat out of and who STILL won the 2000 election. It's true of Dean who a LOT of people still dig. It's true of Kerry who the media wasn't really great towards and who still won. And it would be true of Dean as well.

It's not that we don't have to fight the media as continuously as possible, but we REALLY don't need to make our decisions based on what the media -- or the rightwing -- will or won't do. That's incredibly self-defeating, and it plays right into their hands (which is what they want, of course).

3. How is the Chairman of the DNC elected?
There are 440 members of the DNC. They include Democratic politicians and local and state party officials. A total of 221 votes are needed from the DNC membership to win the chairmanship. Terry McAuliffe, the current DNC Chairman, will not be running for reelection. The DNC will elect its new Chair in early February of 2005.

Having met him several times, I concur with your feelings. I have often heard or read of people's reactions when they meet presidents or politicians, of them being overwhelmed, breathless, awed by power, etc.
Howard looks and speaks like a real person. He doesn't awe, but MAN does he inspire!
He makes me believe that we CAN make a difference.

10. When myself and my kids...
...went to a rally when he came thru saint louis during the primaries, the kids (12 & 8) were impatient and unruly. About halfway in, they both started paying attention. My 8yr old then insisted we try and make our way to the stage, because I "had to take a picture of him with the next President"...

I now annoy all my friends by being far too willing to discuss politics now :)

8. That's great, Darth. I'm glad you got to hear Gov Dean and got your
book signed. I've had the pleasure a couple of times. It's quite a thrill.

The DNC voting members in Kentucky include the state party chair, the vice-chair and a few other members selected by the state party. You should be able to find out who they are from the KY Dem party.
