A good point: Why do Repubs bring up Rice's race
when they don't believe in Affirmative Action.

If they want her on her merits, then let's have a debate on her merits. Knock off playing the race card. They should be called on this.

(the previous is something I sponged off of Big Ed, but I thought it was a good point from one of his callers.)

If they insist on playing the race card, then the Dems should bring up Affirmative Action, and congratulate the Repubs on their breakthrough on the subject.

1. You're on point.
They want to label those who don't support Rice's nomination as SOS as racist.

Well hello, I'm an African-American female, I do not support Rice's nomination, and I'd like to see some Repug come to me and tell me I'm racist.

Randi Rhodes is absolutely right when she said we are judging Rice by her resume, not her color.

This is just an attempt by Repugs to divert attention away from Rice's failings as NSA.

3. Yup, the only ones bringing up race are Republicans. The reason for this
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 09:06 PM by ET Awful
is they are the only ones that see her race.

We look and we see someone who is incapable of doing the job. That's all. The persons gender has nothing to do with it, the persons race has nothing to do with it. The only thing that matters is is that person qualified to do the job for which they are being considered? In this case, the answer is a decisive NO.

17. Actually I see her gender
As a woman myself I see her and it makes me even more disgusted if that's possible.

Because-women have had to work harder and be smarter to rise to postions of influence and leadership.

Because she has wasted it.

Because she is in service of lies.

Because she represents my sex, and I want to support women that advance themselves and are unique and smart.

Because to support her would be a lie.

So it makes me mad. I see someone incompetent and worse. I see someone in denial that doesn't have a clue about life and death and only has the little dialogue of her own ideology believing every blather that comes out of her mouth, instead of any hint of common sense or humanity.

The righties were all on message today, attacking Sen. Byrd's past and ignoring the future.

4. Republicans use minorities in a very cynical way
They put them in positions which they know will be subject to intense criticism. They send them out to lie for them and do their dirty work. When they are criticized (not for their race, but for their actions), then the repukes accuse the critics of racism.

Clever, no?

Cynical, diabolical, inexcusable, ghastly,...these people are without remorse. They are sociopaths.

6. Exactly. Race is only a factor to be used when useful.
Bitch about Condi? I'm sexist. Complain about Condi? How can I be so racist about such a fine BLACKAFRICANAMERICAN woman who RAISED HERSELF UP REGARDLESS OF HER RACE? bah.

5. Repubs are masters of the smoke screen and experts in the art of deception
and since they have a really weak minded American public. Throwing up ruses like her personal story and the fact that she is a black female are more then enough cover for her total incompetence. Couple this with the steno news media and very helpful democratic senators leading every sentence about her confirmation with "she will be confirmed anyway" and I not sure why they are even bothering bringing up her race.

15. True that ...
It never ceases to amaze me how low they will go. They've battled affirmative action, rallied against hate crimes laws, suggested that America would have been better off if segregationists had gotten their way and redistricted areas to reduce minority voting power...
Now all of a sudden they're the NAACP!
They make me fucking sick! How stupid do the Republicans think we (I'm an African American) are? Put any African American in a high position and we'll rally around her? Have you ever heard of Clarence Thomas?

26. Weird backwards stuff going on this election year
(slightly off the subject)

With the tires slashing here, done by the children of a former black mayor and the newly elected first-ever black Congresswoman from Wisconsin, and the charges filed on Monday, I found myself listening to a talk radio station that was discussing the issue. The caller commented that these black youths had brought the problem on themselves and that it was a bad example for blach youths in particular. The host started talking about how that must mean that black lynchings back in the day were brought on by the ones being lynched and how people used to bring their children to watch and what an example that must have been.

He completely lost this lilly-white Norwegian with that segue. Considering both the caller and the host were black, it was as if one was playing the race card on the other. Weird.

9. because they are desperately trying to eat away at the Dem's lock on...
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 09:21 PM by President Jesus
...the minority vote. This is precisely why they are 'floating' the idea of allowing blacks to draw a higher SS check because they don't live as long as whites. They know no provision like that would ever stand up in court, so they float it out there risk free, and try to paint themselves as a friend to Afican-Americans.

It's also why they make a big deal about Rice. "See, some of our best friends are black."

She's a liar, a proven liar. She's got a public record that's hard to look at favorably.

All they've got is a soft-focus biography.

12. Yes, they are trying to steal the "race card", for what thats worth.
Rush Limbaugh recently started the "liberal racists" campaign. I think Coulter picked it up too.

Did you see another of their recent ploys?
http://policy.house.gov/2005_calendar/history.cfm

The hypocrites want to do away with civil rights but at the same time steal the Black and Hispanic/Latino vote on issues like Pro-Life and their Ownership society. The question is, will they buy into it?

You watch, this is part of the Rove master plan. This is how they plan to turn more blue states red, and increase electoral votes in the southern states. Just watch.

14. Racists always cynically accuse their opponents of being racist
It's a form of pre-emption. It's the same thing as when the 5-times-divorced, 3-times-indicted-for-fraud "holier than thou" types accuse everyone else of lacking moral values and frantically bemoan the lack of morality in our culture.

23. I am a bit concern about this...
I do not know why,yet my gut instinct tells me that the republicans are playing the race issue to hurt the Democrats support among African American support. Which largely support our party and its elected officials on many parts of the country. They are in my view trying to undermine our image as against a very smart black woman without really explaining the real reason for our displeasure with her, that the fact that it is not her color that prevents her from becoming as our next Sec. of State but it was and still is her unwilling to tell the truth with the American people.

As our current predicament with the Msm not being objective and doing their duty, it might to some extent help install this thoughts to our fellow Americans. Our Dem. leaders must do something or plan something to counter this false accusations against us before it sticks and become the new perception of us Dem. It happened before u know like us being weak on Defense where in fact we are not and stuff like that. Please dont just brush aside what I post but I want this concern of mine be address more openly and objectively. I appreciate it if u can enlighten me on this issue and help my concern be put to rest. Thank you

21. Two-faced
Republicans have two faces. Face one is the we want to judge people on merit.
But, they know that they don't do that. It's all a good old boy network.

So, face two, we do have a token black.
Damn bastards.
