the Gannon gay prostitute site and what it means
Here is the obvious question some are missing in trying to deny the improtance of this angle to the story, how did the Secret Service miss this one in a background investigation? Moreover, he would have never been given a TS clearance if he was truly in the military, and makes you wonder if he was one of the first ones to leave under no ask don't tell. Still he was shown above TS material by the White House, and was and now is open for blackmail... what other secrets is Mister Gannon hiding and who has an interst in keeping him quiet? I mean he was shown an above TS document that WE KNOW OFF... but was he shown anything else for him to build a series of exclusive news items for Talon News? So go ahead and chew on this... still the conclusions at the site are worth readying so that is the only reason to click on it

Is he another who got a piece of that propaganda pie? That's what I want to know.

Ole' Jeffie will be fine, I'm sure. The neoCONs will prolly make sure he gets $120K/yr to do some sexual torture to male Muslim POWs!

2. Is this also important?
On one of the sites where his biographical info was listed he listed his duty status as released ...notice that it didn't say honorably discharged . Is there any way to find out if this guy was ever in the Marines and, if so, was he released or discharged?

Hmm baars of soap come to mind and yes his release papers can be found with a FOIA... they are public record

10. Military records are actually public
they can be requeted, especially his DD 214, aka his discharge papers. What he did while in teh service can be held back for national security reasons. His DD 214 is public record and is suposed to be available for employers too

It's a membership site so all it has listed is the info he supplied rather than all of it coming from the DOD.
But I'm surprised he has it listed that he isn't drilling... from the photos on the Americablog it certainly looks as if that's his specialty

and those wiht no connections, also he is now very much out of the closet, how fast do you want to bet he will be transfered to non recall status? Assuming this is the same man....

As I said when my hubby was in the service there where three men in the same service sharing same names and spellings and for most of their carrers even rank... and did I mention same rate?

7. gannon - clearances - mehlman
"Moreover, he would have never been given a TS clearance if he was truly in the military"

...hmm... you'd be surprised at some of the people who are granted above TS clearances... I was a linguist for 4 years and was shocked to find the system porous and flimsy, and the oh-so-spooky adjudicating officials complacent and lax...

...by the way, when are people going to go after that smug Ken Mehlman? I'll be stuffing my face with buttery popcorn the day he appears, lachrymose and defeated, on national TV, outed cruelly...

they usually take up to a year... and they are pretty involved.

Look don't ask don't tell does nto preclude a clearance, what precludes one is being a male escort... can yuo see the difference here or do you need this spelled out?

38. whoa chill out...
look all i said is that when i was in (95-99) it seemed rather easy for big-time out and proud gay men to get clearances of ts-si and above. not that the navy as an entity has grown lax -- i was merely observing that when i was in even flamboyantly gay men could get clearances. perhaps even gay male prostitutes. i usually don't need much spelled out -- i hold a b.a. and an m.a. in english. clearly gannon should not have had access to the plame documents. okay! there! can i be debriefed already? shit...

maybe i'll just shut up from now on and vote my conscience in 06 and 08... i'd hate to be one thread less savvy than all of you... i pity the conscientious but rustic wyoming democrat who tries to observe anything on here...

39. A Gay Male prostitute can not get a TS Clearance
Edited on Tue Feb-15-05 03:20 PM by BOSSHOG
Such activity, for whatever reason, was not detected or reported. If such activity had been uncovered, no clearance would have been granted. Out and proud gay men do not get clearances in the Navy. Former Admin Officer here offering two cents worth.

There are much higher clearances. I held a "TS Crypto" (aka TS Code-Word) clearance in my active duty days. I flew electronic counter-warfare missions in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, with cryptological gear on board the aircraft.

28. Richard Powell is one of the connections
Richard Powell is on the Board of Directors for GOPUSA which oversees Talon News. Richard Powell is also the Managing Director for (Jack)Quinn (Ed) Gillespie & Assoc, a major DC firm that specializes in lobbying and working with political campaigns for both parties. Powell's wife Dina is Bush's Director of Personnel.

Ed Gillespie was the Chair for the RNC during the Bush Campaign for the 2004 election.

41. Right. This must be investigated
A group close to smirky the chimp, from TX, started up a "news organization" in Oct 2001 (Talon). "Gannon" was participating in WH press conferences within a week of their startup.

How was he hired or recruited? He had no credentials or experience, but was hired, and paid a salary, to be their "White House Burea Chief". How did he come to work with them? What was their criteria for hiring? Who were his references, if any?

Although I think the WH may be forced to do a "Tenet" or a "9/11" and blame this on "incompetent agents" or "bureaucrats" in the FBI for not doing their job properly, but I think it will come out that the agents who conducted his cursory background check had been ordered to ignore their usual protocol. Someone had instructed them that "Gannon" was "okay."

"Gannon" was an arrogant prick as a member of the WH press corps, and seemed to think he would never be exposed for being a domination whore -- almost incredibly, his careers as prostitute and "journalist" with access to the WH OVERLAPPED in time! Did he think he was protected by some powerful person? Was he blackmailing someone who had used his services, or of whom he had compromising information?

But they SHOULD be. This could be a VERY serious national security issue. And he could be the Weakest Link.

20. Trying to purge gays from the military?
Is it possible that Gannon may have been setting up these websites in order to get dirt on gay military members so that they would be discharged? If so, that is conspiracy against members of the military by a civilian, a very serious charge. Obviously this would be a stretch, but shouldn't be dismissed.

but isn't the military presently having such a rough time with recruitment? this would seem, in such a case, to be a self-defeating initiative, even if it is a thoroughly ideological one.

48. Maybe that's why they found a new "assignment" for him in March 2003
Maybe it was because we were going to war and they wanted him to back off Operation Outing and focus on a new mission.....infiltrating the media.

Just a thought, but his website went on-line the exact same week that we invaded Iraq.

43. Excellent Catch...This is a National Security Issue
How does someone with Guckert/Gannon's background and potential Blackmail aspect, get clearance in the White House? How does one with little or no journalist experience, be allowed to view classified documents?

How far up did this go? If the Secret Service ran a check that took Bloggers just a few days to dig up...find the same and yet all that was overlooked to allow this person in...can't be McClellan...Does he have that kind of pull to over ride the Secret Service? Has to be someone higher up.

Think guys think...McClellan can't be the one that would ok this, Secret Service is to protect the President. Who can over ride the SS to issue a clearance?
