No shock to us. Just reported on CNN while discussing how DC politics have never been this polarized before.

5. True - that seems a bit high doesn't it.
But the Republican number is just unfathomable to me considering the fact that Bush is NOT a Conservative. I don't understand how the "libertarian" wing of the Republicans are going along with this Big Government Neo-Con agenda, along with the moderates. Do they not exist anymore?

Because Susan Collins won reelection not too long ago.

I think it would be hard to knock off Snowe.

31. We need to try. She votes for Frist and votes with Bush all the time.
She also keeps us from having any checks and balances by continuing the Republican controlled Congress.

We are nice to the moderated Republicans. We consider them our friends. Meanwhile, the Republicans go after and attack the moderate Democrats in red-state continuously - they want those seats.

We need to do the same thing with the Republican Senators in blue states. They aren't our friends and neither is the media. We need to realize that.

14. It is CNN so it probably is Gallup. They were comparing Presidential
approval rating on Valentine days historically.

Even in 1999 in the middle of all the Lewinsky stuff, Clinton had a 35% approval rating among Republicans (I think with Democrats it was in the 90's).

The point of the piece was that we now have the largest gap between Republicans and Democrats in views of a President. The gap was smaller during Watergate, the Clinton years, etc. The 76% gap between the two parties is easily the hugest gulf ever.

The parties are more polarized now then they have ever been. How do you stand it as a moderate Republican? Do you still consider yourself a Republican?

15. Not really....
I consider myself a Democrat now in Republican clothing. Actually, I've always been an independent voter choosing the better candidate, not the party line. I am using my history of being a 20 year Republican to get other Republicans to 'see the light' and vote for good Democrats. I worked with other liberal/moderate Republicans in helping keep PA a blue state for Kerry because, unfortunately, a lot of PA Catholic Dems went for W. I think Kerry may have even lost PA with the Catholic Dems defecting if it weren't for his pick-up in the Philadelphia and Allegheny counties (Pittsburgh) of the liberal/moderate Republicans.

18. Keep up the good work! The high Republican approval number for Bush
in almost all the polls just stuns me because the Republican Party of today is so different from their Party historically. I just don't get it but I can't see past that huge gulf between the parties, I guess.

20. Gallup is tough to trust. Maybe it's a state-by-state difference...
In PA there are a lot of the so called 'Rockefeller Republicans' who find the takeover by the zealots appalling and have started voting Democratic. I've been voting for Dem Presidents since 92...I saw the takeover coming and spoke with my vote.

21. I wonder about the samples in their polling methodology
Maybe they go to known Republican and Democratic samples in their surveys, like if they want 500 Republicans and 500 Democrats, or in Gallup's case 400 Democrats, they survey proven 'Republicans' and 'Democrats' from prior surveys. This would probably lead to increasingly partisan samples. You would think they'd just take random samples out of the phone books every time and then attach the self-applied denomination of the interviewee, but maybe they go to known 'Repub' and 'Dem' lists, at least for questions on partisanship.

24. Was the poll taken on FR?
No way 94% of Republicans like this administration. Sorry, does not compute.

94% of Republicans approve these deficits?
94% of Republicans approve the Iraqi adventure?
94% of Republicans approve of Bush's privitization of SS?
94% of Republicans like the Patriot Acts
94% of republicans like the huge increase in the Federal government's role in our lives?

Bullshit. These polls are conducted by the MSM, the same group that enables this criminal administration. I don't believe the election results and I don't believe these polls.

Reminds me of the 2004 election. Basically, every Republican had to vote for Bush to make the numbers work. I suspect the easiest votes to steal were those of registered Republicans. I think the easiest polls to skew are ones that show 94% of Republicans approve. Probably the 30% anti-Bush Republicans think they are the 6%.... I'd like independent confirmation on their data before accepting it.

If 18% of Democrats like Bush, at least 18% of Republicans can't stand Bush.

28. Get a clue folks -- this is the formula for permanent GOP majority
You act as if this is a sign of weakness. It's not. As long as there are more Republican voters than Democratic voters (and currently, there are) and the Congressional districts are gerrymandered in their favor, the Republicans would be perfectly happy to keep the electorate polarized.
