Save Your Marriage with a computer filter
I heard this on American Family Radio (which hates the constitution more than limbaugh) today. A porn site filter can save your christian marriage. Lets review. Christians are going to maintain the sanctity of marriage by:

- Preventing homosexuals from getting married (because christians hate homosexuals)
- Insist that christians enter into a convenant marriage, which is supposed to be harder to get out of than a regular marriage (because christians are embarrassed by their high divorce rates while they sanctimoniously preach morality to the universe) and,
- Put a porn site filter on your computer (because christian couples can't trust each other)

As Tina Turner might ask - What's love got to do with it? I'm a wacko military veteran liberal, happily married for more than 30 years. I don't have a filter on my computer, I'm not in a convenant arrangement and I urge all homosexuals who want to get married to do so (because it is legal per the constitution). What the fuck is wrong with me? Maybe I'm a good Christian with a big loving heart who really gets pissed by those who use Jesus for political purposes. Go figure.

7. Yeah, they might stumble on those "liberal" sites HotMilitarymen
or Male corps.com

Why is the party of (cough)small gov't (cough) always trying to put MORE rules in place instead of trusting the individual?

4. Just admit it-- all we hets really need is a good homosexual lover
...and we'll all renounce our heterosexuality. This filter will help us from having that good homosexual lover, and will keep us eating at Cracker Barrell and voting straight Republican.

Praise Jeebus for American Family Radio! It does all the thinking so we don't have to!!!

8. Pathetic
They don't even trust themselves or their spouses. What about talking to each other? What about discussing how each spouse thinks about pornography, and whether it is hurtful or potentially harmful to the relationship?

No. That would mean honest and critical evaluation of reality.

9. Well, nobody's gonna like this post
I think most pornography sucks. And keep in mind that I'm saying this after spending ten years of my live revelling in pornography, porn narratives, promiscuous sex, etc.

I'm no puritain.

I believe that marriages are damaged by pornography. I can't say exactly how much, but I'd say the lion's share of porn depicts women in very negative ways, and re-enforces not only an unhealthy view of the female body, but re-enforces fetishes that may lead to infidelity. Have you seen some of the sick-ass porn out there? Many liberals turn a blind eye to pornography narratives that are damaging and carry over into human relations in the non-sexual sphere. I know -- for years and years I got turned on by rape fantasies, until I realized that internalizing this and legitimizing this contributes to the idea of the woman as a "present," that is to be de-flowered with or without her consent.

I think some people just can't handle porn. People who have a tendency to be very unsatisfied, always looking for something better, or live their lives playing playstation, and reading fantasy novels -- whatever the case -- can get too obsessed with pornography. Some people probably shouldn't be looking at it, because they can't maintan healthy relationships because of it.

Ergo, I support this filter simply because, it's not the GOVERNMENT telling people what they can or can't watch, but people taking it upon themselves to avert their attention from something that could potentially hurt their partners or ruin their lives.

I'm with Naomi Wolfe on this one -- Ixnay on the ornpay. The best narrative for sex is trust and humanity and egalitarianism. This is simply my opinion, and I don't wish for anyone else to have to live by my opinion, though.

11. Thank You
I agree that Porn can damage a relationship. My concern is christians running around trying to amend the constitution and doing what they can to force their religion on others, all the while seeking out bodily pleasures behind the backs of their christian spouses (obviously a concern of AFR). I find it interesting that you say liberals turn a blind eye to pornography (I'm not exactly sure what that means) but my dabblings in porn ended many years ago. Is that because I'm a liberal and today am sexually satisfied at home? As opposed to conservatives who must be preached to to get a porn filter on their computer? I like your post a great deal and thanks for sharing.

12. If it's a mutually arrived at decision, it might work...however,
If we are now gonna have wives saying to hubbies, "I'm putting this filter on our computer and you are never to view porn again", I can tell you we gonna have some real fights out there in reality land. It'll be like takin' their NASCAR away...them's fightin' words!
Porn can be hurtful, sometimes helpful, but mostly neutral, is my guess. But some third party (e.g. preacher) butting into marriages he knows nothing about is probably gonna do more damage than good.

14. yep.
well said. it always strikes me as odd to hear progressives defend the egregious depths to which pornography descends... ...and then turn around and excoriate someone for writing 'history,' 'chairman' or 'woman' using the conventional orthography. it's like, there's this huge felony going on -- that you support!! -- but sure, you're going after the less damaging representations, flames beneath your heels. ???
i am, likewise, no puritan. i don't have an opinion on the filter, but i do find it humorous in that it lays bare the general wackiness of the loonball right, to wit, their puerile belief that a piece of software can save a marriage.

That was WAY "Too MUCH Information."

I can't believe these "true" Christians are advocating a porn filter.

Born-Again my a**!

Edit for typo . . . Doh!
