A strategy for CBS to regain cred, make money & help heal our democracy!

CBS (and/or Dan Rather) has an opportunity to defend their honor against smears by doing something truly patriotic - raising its standards for truth and democracy. It's time for CBS to partner with the blogosphere and really begin to dig through the facts and fictions of America with us. There is SO much to tell and I think these stories would have most Americans glued to their television sets wanting to know more.

Hmmm do I see dollar signs???

We in the blogosphere can help them create this higher standards for honesty in media while also ushering in the era of podcasting. We can create a new market for truth in media and then find seductive ways to present it.

OK, if CBS doesn't want to do it - how about someone else? NBC, ABC, FOX? All we need is one station, ok - one show -call it Blogcheck? Desperate Liberals? DUTV?

Please pass this on to CBS investors and programming decisionmakers. I
posted it to democraticunderground.com yesterday. I am almost 50 years
old, I grew up at a time when news was considered to be trustworthy. I
have teenagers now and I am worried sick about their future. I work with
a woman from Stalinist Poland. She thinks our 'MSM' is more dangerous
than what she grew up with in Poland because Americans don't expect
progaganda. I've heard this from Russians as well. Please - step up and
raise the standards for truth as a way to heal us and the reputation of
your network from the smears of our very corrupt government. If you
lead, the people will follow and you will make a fortune :)

3. CBS column on Rove-Gannon

I was just pleasantly surprised to see a column on CBS's web site speculating that KKKarl had to have known and approved the White House access that was given to Jeff Gannon. The last paragraph of the column reads:

"This week Democrats, who have serious case of Rove envy, went a little nuts and started sending around information and graphic pictures of Gannon and his porn Web sites. But it is the more routine part of Gannon's life that deserves serious scrutiny. Planting or even just sanctioning a political operative in the WH press room is a dangerous precedent and Karl Rove's hope to become a respected policymaker will be hampered if the dirty tricks from his political past are more apparent than his desire to spread liberty around the globe."

Here is part of my reply to CBS:

The only reason why Karl Rove’s dirty tricks are not more apparent is that the press has been intimidated into looking the other way. Since most of the MSM, even those outlets with a supposedly liberal leaning, is financed by conservatives, this is no surprise.

In case you’re not aware, Mr. Rove has a history of anonymously planting “information”. Sometimes the “reports” are unflattering to his cohorts, but presented in a manner that is guaranteed to be discredited. Then the truth slips out the back door.

I suspect that something similar may have been done to Dan Rather. Why did no one look into the source of the forged documents? How were the conservative bloggers able to discern the forgery from the blurry image in a television screen and discuss the details of the font changes within a few hours of the show? Doesn’t it seem strange that so many people suddenly knew so much about fonts that were used in the 1970’s?

I hope you both pursue this story and keep your job.

And frankly, some of the stuff the bloggers are doing is the last vestige of old-fashioned investigative reporting. You sure ain't seeing it among many in the conventional media. Especially since kkkarl DOES have 'em by the knickers.
