Bush Allows Bad Beef from Canada, But Not Safe Drugs
The Bush administration has been adamant about not allowing the import of safe drugs from Canada. Yet, they have agreed to expand the import of beef from Canada (as of March 7th), despite documented cases of mad cow disease. Talk about twisted double standards.

The American people should be guaranteed the highest standards of quality and safety control when it comes to our food. Likewise, we should be guaranteed access to low cost medications. Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, the first Democratic Governor in Montana in 16 years, spoke out about this double standard in today’s Democratic Party Radio Address:

"President Bush was recently here in Montana and we had just one question for him," Gov. Brian Schweitzer said in his party's weekly radio address. "Why allow bad beef to enter the U.S. from Canada and not allow safe medicine?"

1. Does his hypocrisy come as a surprise to you?
Whatever makes money for his minions is what he will do....consistency is not a requirement.

2. In the first place, it's not "bad beef"
Our Canadian cattle ranchers operate under the EXACT same rules as US ranchers do in requirements to report and destroy all cattle found with mad cow.

The real question is, why hasn't mad cow been found in US cattle yet? Researchers say that it's only a matter of time before it's found in the US somewhere.

We fought hard to get the border re-opened because we FINALLY convinced USFDA that the science was on our side and one or two cases a year represent a vanishingly small amount of risk to consumers.

The requirements for E. coli testing aren't even that good and one case of E. coli can kill several people at once.

But I take your point about drug importing. If importing US made drugs is SO dangerous, then where are all the dead Canadians?

3. That's because the beef industry isn't linked to Chimp's fraudministration
...like the pharmaceutical industry is.
