my theory: the" Ahrnold as prez "controversy is masking something else...
I think the whole attempt to make it ok for Schwarzenegger to run for president is veiled attempt to open up the issue of changing the rules for the presidency and slipping in a rescinding of the two term rule....so that W can be president for life.

:scared:

1. Good call
It never is what "they" want you to look at, once you've figured out it is a non-event "they've" already push through with "their" true agenda.

3. Exactly...
Everything initiative and every proposal they come up with is a Three Card Monte game. Things are NEVER as they appear!

2. Is there an actual possibility that such a thing could happen?
I mean, I have heard it discussed, but never seriously. Is this idea of amending the Constitution "for Arnold" a real possibility? I just don't see it...

4. I never thought we would preemptively invade a soveriegn nation
based on no evidence, either.

Just because its absurd, doesn't prevent it from happening, unfortunately.

5. Not that I want the Terminator to be Prez
but it has always seemed to me that the Born in the USA rule is a little outdated. I get it in the 1780s. They didn't want a shill for the king to come over and get the vote of those still loyal to the throne. That ain't gonna happen now. It seems that a 20 year (or something) residency requirement would be better now.

6. Amending the Constitution is not easy
That's why we've only had 17 in the past 200 years (excluding the original bill of rights).

First, it requires a 3/4 majority in Congress - that's both houses, by the way - to get started. THEN, 3/4 of state legislatures must approve it. Technically, the ERA passed, but has not been ratified by the states, and that's where many amendments die on the vine.

Even if they started the process now, there is no way in hell it would get done by 2008.

10. Hyde won't sign 22nd repeal because Clinton could be elected
Heard this yesterday.

Crowley to Novak on a third Clinton term: "You and I would have an awful lot of fun, though, I think"
From an exchange between CNN host Robert Novak and CNN senior political correspondent Candy Crowley on the March 14 edition of CNN's Inside Politics:

NOVAK: The House minority whip, House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer of Maryland, every year introduces a constitutional amendment to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which puts a two-term limit on presidents. Every year he gets the revered Republican congressman, Henry Hyde of Illinois, to be a co-sponsor because Henry hates all kinds of term limits.

This year, however, Hyde is not on as a co-sponsor. And the word around is that's because the way it's worded this year would permit Bill Clinton to come back after and run again for a third term. And that's something no Republican, including Henry Hyde, wants.

CROWLEY: I don't know. You and I would have an awful lot of fun, though, I think.

11. IMO, the talk is going on because Arnie doesn't like the hard work
of governing CA....he's looking for his next move
because he's fucking up and pissing off every
group of Californians he can stamp with a union
label.

He hasn't brought more jobs to CA. He's raised
"fees" (but don't call them taxes) on the ones
who can least afford them. He's taken more corporate
money than Gray Davis ever did and in a more
blatant way, asking for corporations all over the country
to line his pockets. He doesn't work with the legislators
preferring expensive ballot inititives and special
elections to doing the hard work.

He's just looking for his next role. Believe me.

12. OF COURSE he wants "ballot initiatives"...they're putting Diebold back in
since they got rid of Kevin Shelley, the Sec of State that outlawed Diebold machines.

Now that they've got Conny McCormack in there, they're going to have control of the votes.

So, it wouldn't matter what the legislature thinks...they can just put it to the "people", the "voters", and steal their votes!

Wha-la! California's a RED state! It's a repuke wet dream!
