Truth in Advertising a.k.a. Name That Act
I’m just a new kid on the block & don’t know if this has been proposed or not, but how about a truth in advertising thread? You know, like a name that Act game. The only rule is that the new name must accurately describe what the Act does.

For example, the

Bankruptcy Abuse and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 = MBNA Slavery Act of 2005

Clear Skies Act = Fuck You, Move Upwind Act

2. I just read somewhere that advertisers get to use the freedom of
speech laws and they get to deduct the cost of advertising from any taxes they pay. Is this correct?

3. Free advertising. Is it true corporations get to deduct the cost of
advertising from taxes?

4. Speaking strictly as a small businees owner
I do get to subtract advertising costs, as well as internet fees for my web site.
Therefore, I suspect that corporations also get these tax breaks.

6. Is this the same as all costs of production? I mean.. do you just put
them all in the same costs pile and deduct that from gross profit at the end of the year? Or is it something different?

8. Okay.... I am having a moment here.... people who put horrid ads
in my face get to deduct all the costs in their taxes... so it means if I start my own business that all the costs are free.

I am looking at it from both angles... and it seems like such a little thing that I put up with ads. Or that I put up with ads and get my favorite TV. And then they do not pay taxes on those ads I have to watch.... there should be some cost to them... it should not be a net benefit to them....the ads annoy me - what is the cost of that...

And it reminds me of the corporate MBAs and the people who have monopolies and because of that are so secure in their business that they go out and build a foundation.

You know Thirtysomething... the whole point of the show being perspective. And I am thinking that if I start a tiny wee company and only pay advertisers for actual "hits" on my site.. am I making less garbage than a big corporation... and if the ads get so much better... and more specific... will I not consider it garbage? Will information and ads... morph into the same thing... and I want my journalists to be ...breaking stories... will the TV I watch know that?

I am just unhappy and confused. We need categories. When the ads are on they are on... when you hit the news program the corporate influence should end. People are weak... they will not make the best decisions about journalism off the top of their head... that is why we specialize and vet & hire journalists... so the information is good information.... When I sell to someone in Japan... they only see my web page and I only pay for their stop...I get that that transaction is good information. But what about the "other" good information. What about public radio...

Will it all be about dumbing down...will there have to be a class of humans who walk around with another classification? Will the ads/information these "intellectuals" see be greater and smarting up?

We thought that humans stopped evolving when they didn't die of disease so much. But maybe the marketing and specific ads (and so much competition the world over) is really when we stopped evolving. That type of marketing... kinda does away with things like LUCK.
