11. For the 100th time, that is not a valid comparison; Clinton didn't compete
in Iowa.

22. All the more reason it is valid... Iowa makes little difference

Some folks don't even bother with Iowa and do fine. Some folks did badly in Iowa and still won.

Iowa really doesn't make much difference.

4. Dukakis was the NE liberal establishment favorite, and SHOULD have been
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 06:28 PM by AP
counted out after IA.

In Blumenthal's book the Clinton Wars he laments over the Dukakis nomination -- "what were we thinking???" He said he and his friends invented the perfect candidate after that loss. Four years later, that candidate ran: Bill Clinton.

Iowa was a message to the hierarchy about Dukakis that the hierarchy ignored. They revived him when he should have died.

7. What's wrong with NE liberals?
Why must the south continue to dictate who runs for president? We've had great leaders from the north, south, east and west. I'm tired of this meme that "New England liberals" can't win in the south. We're one country, damn it!

14. Hopefully the NE liberal elite in power corridor don't share your opinion.
Hopefully the NE'ers who really pick the president will pick the southerner who can win.

13. Have you read the Clinton Wars? Blumenthal, a NE liberal (actually Chicago
but educated and worked in Mass and DC rest of his life) admitted that the power-corrider (DC-NY-Bos) picked the wrong candidate when they picked Dukakis. He said Clinton was the right candidate.

It's not an issue of the south dictating who runs for president, actually. It's making sure that people in the power corridor in the NE pick the right southerner to run for president, if you read between Blumenthals' lines. Isn't that funny?

16. The south doesn't dictate...voters vote for the candidate they like
and for some reason, Southerners who have been elected predominate the list.

You guys need to quit whining about Southerners votes mattering.

21. Right...Clinton in 92 is more comparable to Clark in 04
Clinton didn't campaign in Iowa, 92.
Clark didn't campaign in Iowa, 04.

Clinton finished second to Tsongas,92.
Clark will probably finish second to Kerry, 04.

From there on out, I expect there to be remarkable similarities in Clinton's and Clark's primary wins.

We'll see if it hurt him.

26. Harkin might be following party orders: support Dean on the surface,
plant seeds of doubt subliminally. Dean's like Dukakis? Huh?

Didn't Harkin give Edwards a compliment in his Dean endorsement?
