I saw a stupid ad today for Bush's SS plan
I was getting a haircut and my barber had FOX news playing on his TV. Frankly, I'd go to another barber if I could--but he's the only one available to me in this red rural wasteland.

In any case, it showed this stopwatch and asked viewers to come up in the next "whatever seconds" at least one plan the Democrats had for saving Social Security. The piece of crap had me steamed, but the guys in the room were gung-ho for it.

The problem is, I really wasn't able to think of anything the Dems have proposed, or at least, I couldn't think of any snappy response. So, I kept quiet.

I sit here and wonder still, what could I have said? Anybody have a good idea of something I could say if in a situation like that again?

2. What the fuck is Bush's plan, there is a lot more to it than just private
accounts?

Do any repugs fucking know? I doubt it.

3. One, the Administration doesn't have a plan, two, we don't need
a plan 'cause there isn't a crisis.

Just raise the cap on SS taxes and we're good to go forever.

4. Wy should we propose
anything? It's his plan (which he doesn't even have yet). He doesn't want to make the first move so why should we. Our plan is already in place and working.

8. Our plan is already in place and working. Brilliant!
This needs it's own thread. Social Security is doing fine, it just needs some maintenance work to keep every thing working smoothly. In fact, regularly scheduled maintenance is needed for most things worth having.

If George wants private retirement accounts, let him put forth a plan. He hasn't. And I don't think he can. We can't afford it, unless of course, we raise taxes or create a new one. And you know what the anti tax lobby thinks about that.

5. Umm, they could raise the limit on what portion of income is taxable

for Social Security. . . What is the cap now? First $80,000 or something like that.

I had the same reaction the first time I saw it, I couldn't think of anything. But the more I think about it, just because you haven't found the BEST solution, doesn't mean you can't recognize a BAD solution when you see one.

That will be my response from now on. (Unless somebody here comes up with a better one. lol)

6. Isn't that put out by the same people who backed Swift Boat Lies?

USA Next: http://www.usanext.org/

I emailed them and told them to do a google search! LOL

(a) There is no crisis
(b) Raise the cap on the income levels paying in
(c) Bush's plan adds trillions to the deficit

What more do Dems need to say?
