Saw a Fantastic TV ad today from AARP on SS reform
The ad opens with a housewife looking at a full sink that will not drain.

A plumber says to her, "Well, we can fix that drain, but we're gonna have to tear down the house".

A narrator starts talking, asking if you would demolish a basically sound house to fix a minor problem with the kitchen sink.

The camera pans out to show a bulldozer crashing thru the kitchen, then you see a wrecking ball smashing the entire house in.

The narrator says, something like "social security has minor problems. Why tear the whole thing up and incur trillions in cost to move to private accounts, when all that is needed are a few simple, minor adjustments?"

It is a very effect ad - the visual impact tells the whole story.

As we all know, the chimperor has hired the Swift Boat Liars to smear the elderly and their (allegedly) "liberal" lobby, the AARP. Let's remind dumbya what his beloved Bible says about those who disrespect their elders...

Leviticus 20:9 (King James Version)
"For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him."

2. I love that ad. AND I HATE the GOP ad which says
(with ticking alarm clock) "OK, name one idea the Democrats have come up with about Social Security"

I just want to scream "Here's one: SOCIAL SECURITY, YOU MORAN!!!"

Cheeeeez!

6. I am in AZ -- what states are others in -- where is AARP running the AD?
I HATED that Kerry ads only ran in the "swing states". It was so frustrating to work the campaign and have no awareness of who Kerry was or where he stood.

I suspect that Kerry may have fared much better in the popular vote if he had ran ads in all 50 states, even in the "solid red" states where there was (allegedly) "no hope" and even in the "solid blue" states where there was (allegedly) "no need". I hope Dean changes this and runs Democratic TV spots in all states.

But back to the AARP ad, are they running it everywhere or just where there are lots of old folks (e.g. AZ and FL)?

10. That is so true!
Social Security just needs some maintenance work, much like anything worth keeping. George, now, he doesn't want to keep it. He doesn't have a plan for S.S. except to take money our of it for "retirement" accounts. What he is trying to retire is Social Security.

If he wants retirement counts, which aren't a bad idea, he should find some way to provide that without leaching on social security which is a pretty darn good social insurance program.
