Schaivo: Should we highlight this as a prime expamle
of why not NOT allow the Repukes idea of good judges to be confirmed. Since they want judges who WOULD overturn states rights in cases like this. Wouldn't this be a great opportunity to highlight the motives behind the judicial nomination made by BushCo since public opinion seems to be in our favor at the moment?

Just wondring what others think about this.

1. Bring back the spectre of Nixon
Argue this situation as the GOP attempting to create a government of men, not laws. Arbitrary justice still rings true to the overwhelming majority of Americans.

2. YES!
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 02:42 PM by calimary
YES!
YES!
YES!
YES!

Oh, and did I say YES to this yet?

OUI!
SI!
DA!
JA!
Uh-HUH!

As well as mentions of "Checks and Balances," an independent - NOT "Activist" judiciary (these judges are ruling to take NO action, so how can they possibly be "activist"?), and the many public opinion polls that are RESOUNDINGLY against government intrusion into privacy matters like this one.

Oh yeah - almost forgot -

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Laws and Rulings should NOT Be Based on "Public Opinion"
They should be based on doing what's right. Which is contrary to the GOP position on many issues, such as the Schiavo case.

4. Move-on is doing it right now

been seeing commercials during the news programs the last few days that show Cheney ripping the top of the capitol building off and using it as a rubber stamp for judicial appointments. At the end Cheney is wearing a crown and it says, "who made Dick Cheney king?"

Check it out https://www.moveonpac.org/donate/rubberstamp.html

do you have a link to it? That is more focused on preventing the "nuclear option" Which is tied to the case, but moreover to want to highlight WHY we disapprove of particular nominations, and using the media spectacle and public opinion on the case to illustrate our point.

I also wrote the following letter to the Howard Dean c/o DNC

I just wanted to make a suggestion. Seeing that at the moment, there is an overwhelming majority of voters on both sides of the voter spectrum voicing their displeasure with the interference of Congress in the Schiavo case. Wouldn't now be a good time to put the spotlight on Bush's judicial nominations? Given their attempts at every turn to fight the Florida courts rulings and trying to label them as "liberal judges", it would make sense to highlight the very reasons why we oppose his nominations. Show that they WANT conservative judges who would have turned over the Florida courts rulings if given the appointments and the opportunity, and how it is the duty of judges in this country to uphold the law and protect the Constitutional Rights of the American people, as the courts in Florida did? These Florida judges have no record indicating that they are what the Bush Administration claims they are in being "liberal" judges and are seeking to appoint judges much more conservative than the so-called liberal judges who protected the rights of the Schiavo's and others? Just thought that this would be the opportune time to bring these issues to light.
