Looks like Richard Morrison was asked by TX Dems to step aside.
We have got to stop this stupidity. We supported him last year when he was a Dean Dozen. We donated last night to him, and I am heading there again to donate.

Richard ran a good race last year. He deserves for his party to back off. Here is the first reference I saw on it.
At MyDD just now:
SNIP.."Richard Morrison (none / 0)

"After doing all the hard work, may get a challenge from the establishment Democratis in Houston who did nothing for him in 2004 when a few hundred thousand dollars may have made a huge difference.
He's apparently been asked informally to "step aside" if it looks like Delay is beatable
(or if there's a special election if Delay has to resign).
I hope his response is something on the order of General MacAuliffe's at Bastogne."
"Decisions are made by those who show up"

Well, looks like Richard is developing a stubborn streak. Go Richard. Don't let them do this.

Until Morrison's campaign in 2004, DeLay faced nominal Democratic nominees, usually local activists without much organization, and one or two third-party candidates.

"Absolutely, we're paying more attention than before," said DCCC spokesman Bill Burton. "We're looking at it really hard."

Morrison, who initially offered to step aside out of party loyalty if Quan wanted to run, said he has changed his mind.

"I'm not going to be scared to spill Democratic blood," Morrison said. "I'm a victim of my own success. Last time, the wisdom was, don't do it, he (DeLay) will stomp you into the ground. ... And now it's a race."END SNIP

Richard, my hubby has just agreed we will donate again, just to stop the party from telling people who worked their butts off last time to step down.

8. Here is an article about him.

I see nothing here that outshines Morrison. It is just that the party leadership is used to picking and they don't like upstarts. I think we need some upstarts.

10. Quan is Houston city coucilman. Due to the redistricting, Delay's
district now has a sizable Asian population in it. Quan is Asian and is a somewhat known in the Houston-area, and the DCCC probably feels like he may be able to raise a lot of money from affluent Houston-area Asians. We'll see what happens. I'm hoping Delay just resigns and there is a special election.

6. I donated to Morrison last year but want the best candidate
I am not in his district but I met Richard Morrison at a fund raiser at John O'Quinn's house last year and contributed to his campaign. Morrison is nice guy and ran a decent campaign. He forced Delay to go negative and to go door to door.

However, we need the best possible candidate. I really want to oust Delay and will support the strongest candidate. Morrison is a nice guy but not necessarily the strongest candidate.

7. And many of us will support Morrison.
Do you think the party should choose who the best candidate is? Or do you think the people should. This is getting to be a joke. Why should anyone bother to sweat blood and tears just to be called a decent guy but then for someone to say you will support anyone who can win.

I am beyond that now. I will support whom I feel is best.

9. I like Morrison
I think Morrison did a lot better than the results showed against DeLay.

The day of the election I remember someone calling the radio station to report they voted a straight Democratic ticket and, to their dismay, found they also voted for DeLay.

Morrison had good organization and real energy in his campaign. I was amazed at how many people got active and worked for him. I saw those blue Morrison T-shirts everywhere I went in DeLay's district. It was a real grassroots effort.

Unlike (for example) Pennsylvania, the Texas Dems don't have a powerful machine that's able to tell potential candidates to take a powder. Morrison is the only one of the several candidates being talked about who actually lives in the district, and many, myself included, feel he would have the best chance of winning. See for example http://www.burntorangereport.com/archives/003665.html

And now a different thought: the fact that people are lining up to run against DeLay is a VERY good sign that Bug Boy has taken his last lobbyist-financed golfing junket to Scotland.
