in power would be a breath of fresh air. They would have NO budget for the war either...Think about that...they'd HAVE TO bring troops home without a budget authorizing them to be there.
This would be much like the end of VietNam without funding for Ambassador Graham A. Martin, who lost his adopted son Glenn Dill Mann in Vietnam in Nov 1965 when Martin was Ambassador to Thailand next door.

Name: 1LT Glenn Dill Mann Status: Killed In Action from an incident on 11/23/1965 while performing the duty of Co-pilot. Age at death: 25.7 Date of Birth: 03/17/1940 Home City: Williamsburg, VA Service: regular component of the U.S. Marine Corps. Unit: VMO-6 Service: U.S. Marine Corps. The Wall location: 03E-111 Aircraft: UH-1E Service number: 084300 Country: South Vietnam MOS: 7335 = Pilot HMH Primary cause: Hostile Fire
The books all keep it a secret about the real name of the adopted son -- Frank Snepp's book 'Decent Interval' uses the wrong name-- and David Butler's 'Fall of Saigon' used just the first name Glenn.
Martin went on to become a rabid war hawk and no doubt kept those war drums beating from 1965 onward. His knowledge of the drug trafficking from Thailand (appointed by JFK Nov 1, 1963) to his other ambassadorship in Italy (appointed by Nixon from 1969) and So. Vietnam (1973-75) goes a long way to becoming informed as to why a book like Alfred McCoy's excellent Politics of Heroin could be written and be soooooo acurate.
