Will they vote all seven nominees onto the judiciary? If so, will they pay a political price for it? Might it not be a short-term gain and a long-term loss for them? Aren't they playing with fire here?

It's almost like they want to lose?? But no matter what they do, the media does not hold them accountable so they are going to be stuck in power with the next big collapse and will be unable to blame it on Clinton?

1. When, not if, when they roll over us and end the judicial filibuster
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 10:06 PM by Rowdyboy
Republicans will have finally gone a step too far and jumped the shark. Americans will not allow their government to be openly stolen. I think the reaction in 2006 and 2008 will move the pendulum in the opposite direction for awhile...IMHO...

on edit: worst they can do is put more asshole judges in place....They pretty much get their way everywhere else anyway...

5. but it's only if it is widely reported -- and if things start really
going radically to the right that the public would even know. I've talked to people about this threat, and they haven't heard anything about it.

WHY aren't dems talking about the 200+ judicial appointees that HAVE been made? Why aren't dems talking about the fact that the Senate has only blocked 2.3 percent of President Bush's judicial nominees in comparison to the Senate, under Republican control, blocking 20 percent of President Clinton's judicial nominees. Why does the public seem to forget that the Republican Controlled Congress virtually Shut Down the government?

12. I appreciate that...
We're in for some bad days....I expect they'll roll right over us and take a chance people will forget before November 2006. God knows I hope they're wrong. This fucking with the filibuster is TOTALLY going too far and I really believe they'll pay a big price for their egotism in going too far...

8. I thought the Democrats would shut the Senate down...
if the Republicans eliminated the filibuster.

That would suck for the Republicans, because come 2006 they'd have little time to work on getting Bush's initiatives passed, and little progress to report to their constituents when their jobs are on the ballot. :D

10. Why putting Priscilla Owen on the 5th Circuit CoA is a really bad idea
She's a whore for Enron and other big corporate types. We can't afford her.

11. If they do away with the filibuster, we lose not them.
They will pay no political price. The sheeple don't pay attention to court appointments or inside power politics. If so, the Repugs would have lost Congress after impeaching Clinton on bullshit charges.

If they succeed in stocking the appellate courts and next the Supreme Court with Scalia clones, they will win short and long term. Those are LIFETIME appointments and they can't be recalled.

Only if an outraged and UNIFIED Democratic party totally brings the Senate to a standstill do we have any chance of recovering. We can't have any nervous Nellies and no sell-outs. It's got to be total. Otherwise, we lose big time--which is what I see as happening.
