I think most of the Democrats in Congress are doing everything...
they possibly can do to fight the right-wing fascist regime that has taken our nation by the throat and choking the life out of all of us. We can always find something for which to criticize anyone of them on a given day, but overall, I think most of them are doing their level best.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't criticize them. We should. After all, we are "Democrats". We are not as apt to fall into line or to join a political cult as are the Republicans. Why is that? I do not know.

1. No kidding
They can only do so much. Since we're the minority party, we basically have to be on the defense. This means, we probably won't get very much legislation passed but the Dems in Congress can still fight as hard as they can against the Republicans. They're not immune from criticism, but to just call them names w/o reason is just stupid.

2. Sorry but mostly I disagree
Very few democratic senators and representatives have stood up and spoken out against the attempt by the neocon-theocrat-corporatist alliance to establish one party rule. Instead the norm is to go along and get along, to work together with their colleagues across the aisle, even while their colleagues are attempting to abolish representative democracy and establish an american taliban theocracy.

Barbara Boxer is one of the few who is willing to speak the truth. Conyers is another. There are more but it is a depressingly short list.

5. I think we have expectations from mediocrity..
and that there is a lot of mediocrity in Congress - just like real life - and many of them are not even as politically savvy as many here at DU. Mostly, they are not an enlightened bunch...

7. I agree with you.
Colorado sent a Democratic senator up in 2004.

He voted for the bankruptcy bill.

So, now we have two republicans wearing different colored ties.

Frustrating.

It must suck to be them at the moment.

4. That's a rather broad "we."
Most of the Democrats I have been exposed to are about as likely to suck up the prevailing kool-aid as anyone else, merely a bit better educated.
As a matter of fact, due, perhaps, to a more compassionate and trusting outlook, liberals and progressives seem to be even more gullible than most. The willingness to trust, in spite of being farked over terribly, and to give, it seems, any number of "second chances," exposes us to being "taken" again and again.

6. Yeah...with a few notable exceptions:
William Lacy Clay? I'm looking at your turn-coat ass. Misogynist jerk.

But for the most part, I really hate all the "Dems aren't doing their job" bashing I hear. Screaming at Democratic leaders can accomplish little, as they can do little, beyond effect their unpopular, but probably correct strategy: fight the most important battles as hard as possible and be willing to compromise on the "smaller" ones, while pursuing every (reasonable) opportunity to criticize Republican flaws. True, I'm fantastically unhappy about what they've designated as the "smaller" battles, but I look at the position Dems are in just right now and I'm not sure I could come up with better ideas for how to be more effective.

54 in the house voted for Anti-Choice juvenile abortion bill(the bill that criminalizes grandparents and others who cross a state border to get a minor an abortion! ) And don't start me on the ANWAR drilling or the Negroponte votes. I am very grateful for the stalwart few.

9. Well, for ANWR
it was only three Democrats so, the majority can't be blamed for that one, but yeah, I can see your point about the other votes.
