I didn't spend 24 years in uniform supporting and defending the bible
I've discovered that that one short sentence pisses the living shit out of christian conservatives, especially those who never served, which is most of them. If you are a veteran please try it out sometime. I also carry a handful of Army recruiting business cards. The testicles of strapping young conservative lads shrivel up in their body when an old fart veteran offers to drive them to the recruiters office. Honor, courage, commitment. They couldn't cut it.

To twist the knife just a tad, I tell them I consider religious zealots domestic enemies of the constitution and my oath of enlistment is still in effect. Pisses the fuckers off bad.

Stop into a recruiting office and ask for some business cards; that you would like to help them out. I went to basic in San Diego in 72. We were told what would happen if we escaped over certain fences; killed on the interstate, drown in the bay OR, if we went over that fence (Marine Bootcamp) the Navy would come get us in a couple of months. The best boss I had in the Navy was a Marine Lieutenant Colonel. Worked my ass off but nobody fucked with me. I'd love to see Bubba junior in Marine bootcamp and the upon graduation receive orders to Fallujah. Momma would be so proud.

Actually, what I like to do is post a flyer on the windshield of any parked car I see (and can reasonably get to) that has a bush/cheney or "w04" bumper sticker on it:

Dear friend and fellow American:

I know how much you support President Bush and the war effort in Iraq. But I noticed that you haven’t signed up to fight yet. It might be because you are too busy, or maybe you just didn’t know how easy it is to join! I know you probably feel guilty about sending other young men and women off to die in your place, so I am sure you’ll take this opportunity to do the right thing:

Sign up for a tour or two in Iraq today!

You will enable some poor soldier who’s stuck there, exhausted, scared, isolated, frustrated, thirsty, poorly supplied, insufficiently armored, under constant threat, lied to about why he’s there and when he’s going to be released, and yearning to come home – to do just that: come home!

What could possibly be more patriotic?

What better way could there be to prove your devotion to President Bush?

“…And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the U.S.A.”

Below are the links you can use to sign up to join any branch of the armed forces!

I got 95 percent of this off one I found on the internet. Sorry to say I do not remember where, to give proper credit. I only added the second large paragraph and the two lines that follow. I had 200 printed up on nice bright yellow paper. I got one car in the neighborhood to move off the street, and another to park around the block - before disappearing completely. And I'm not done yet! A couple of people I met at the recent California Dem convention saw it and took copies with them.

I continue this in YOUR honor, BOSSHOG!

I'm like you, I get RIGHT IN THEIR FUCKING FACE, and I will call them what they are, cowardly anti-American fucksticks, and until they get to the recruiter's office and hold up their right hand, that is EXACTLY what they are.

You support the troops? Then grab a rifle, you pussy.

They will not get, nor do they deserve any respect, with their pathetic faded "Support Our Troops!" bullshit on their shiny SUV.

12. Go get em Vickers
At least six times in the past 26 months, I have been called a coward by non serving conservatives. Last month a young lad told me I should get my cowardly ass down to the recruiting station to protect this country I obviously hate. My retiree id card, my CPO coin and the story of my tour in Saudi Arabia in 96 almost getting killed in a terrorist attack ended the conversation. The best way to support the troops is to become one right? RIGHT IN THEIR FUCKING FACES...

I mean, up here in Michigan, there are so many vets that you can't assume anyone hasn't served. I don't feel okay with handing out recruiting stuff because, chances are, I'd be dealing with a vet.

I'm so glad you're talking back--they're more likely to listen to you. Thank you!!!

Psst, want a hat? I have some lovely wool yarn I'm going to make a helmet hat (fits under the helmet for warmth and sweat, etc.) out of for a soldier, and I have enough for two, I think.

When you are chatting with a veteran there is one absolute truth - that person strapped it on and did his/her time. I think one of the great results of our service is that millions don't have to and that is fine with me. Isn't it strange that sacrifice is not appreciated by so many who never sacrificed.

23. Its the truth buddy

Its funny and sad in a way.

I did my time proudly, carried the burdens it left me with and went on my way trying to make it through this crazy life. Did my best to put the vet side of me to rest so to speak.

But over the past couple of years since all these chicken hawks took control of our country and have their following. I've found myself time and time again forced to call someone out on when they did their time. Most of the time getting that blank look when they realize that they are dealing with someone who did walk the walk.

Really hate the state of things today where we have to play the "vet card" in order to justify ourselves and our thoughts. That's not what the country I served is about, of course the country I served seems to of disappeared.

The chickenhawk card has absolutely no value and lets keep it that way. This swabbie supports you for your efforts to make me a free American.

This is a bumper sticker this old vet has on his truck. It gets them pretty riled too.

Why are these people always surprised to find out that there really are some liberal combat vets out there? It seems all the chickenhawks are republicans. They love to rattle sabres, but they won't run to the sound of gunfire. Asshats.

A few night patrols in Fallujah would adjust the attitude of the young lads. Swearing to support and defend the constitution against all enemies is an extremely liberal thing to do. The only bumper sticker on my new car reads....."Is your Yellow Ribbon going to buy them more body armor?"....

In parking lots, I've seen quite a few people reading it.

I think of it as a nice counter to those damn yellow ribbons pasted on everybody's car....as though the ribbons are actually doing something that helps or supports soldiers.

If so, thank you very much! I've been selling a lot of that one and I've been curious to see people's reaction when it's on someone's car (my husband cannot bear the thought of putting any bumper stickers on our car, he's weird that way). For those interested, I have a few more designs along those lines including:

If you voted for Bush, a yellow ribbon won't make up for it.

A yellow ribbon won't feed a veteran's family.

A yellow ribbon only supports more war.

I support the troops, I don't support the war.

The link is in my signature line.

Actually I'm a meek and mild friendly kinda guy. I don't have to pretend to be a badass but some of the young trained neanderthals just can't help but make themselves targets, and I got a sharpshooting ribbon with an M-16 and and expert ribbon with a .45 and I can eviscerate with my oratory if the situation calls for it. They just make it too damned easy, but I'd like for them to go back to their instructors (preachers, politicians) and ask a few questions before they wade onto the target range. As I told another poster if you wanna fuck with my country and my constitution be prepared to rassle a Hog, a proud liberal veteran Hog. Is this weather awesome or what?

102. Yeah, I get that too. I served a year in the Army National Guard
Edited on Fri May-06-05 09:46 AM by olafvikingr
(Infantry) before going active duty Navy (Gunners Mate Guns) for 4 years (actually went to 2 boot camps, that sucked!) I did a 6 month deployment to the Persian Gulf and also was a participant in some troop evacuation from Somalia. Didn't see combat, and I am happy for that. I am always happy to be able to think that I served 5 years in the military and know that I did not directly cause anyones death. There was good and bad, and I saw lots of stuff I will never forget.

I'm liberal and a bit hippy, and don't generally come off as the type to have served in the military. I sure love being able to voice my opinion, and then being able to play my vet card against ignorant fucks that want to doubt me! I prefer peace and love, but I still know how to smack down a freeper chickenhawk!

This was my home...

I never could give up my time in because it did make me who I am today, but at the same time there are things I expereienced that I wouldn't on my worst enemy.

It was only a few years ago that I began to change my thinking on that last part, wish our "War President" saw what I did, then maybe he would value the lives of our troops a little more and not send them to harms way unless this country was facing a real threat.

Thread title: WaPo: Air Force Academy religious bias probe – FUNDIE INFILTRATION?

I can't seem to interest many people in what I see as a situation that should arouse our active interest and concern. We do NOT want a new generation of military officers that have been fed KoolAid by the fudies when they were cadets.

45. A blatant display of
constitutional ignorance and a load of arrogance that Jesus will spank them for when the time comes. The worst "leaders" I served under in the Navy were those who wore their religion on their sleeves. They could praise the Lord but they couldn't lead Sailors and they couldn't meet mission in a safe and sound environment because they were too busy checking others "wrongs" at the quarterdeck.

According to the Academy, 90% of the cadets call themselves Christian. I think it is therefore logical to state that "christians" were heavily involved in the sexual assaults and harrasment cases at the academy in recent years. And james dobson's proximity bodes ill for the service whose number one function is to support and defend the constitution which gives haters like dobson the freedom to spread their viruses. Yes, I have a very strong opinion on the matter, and like you I will voice my liberal veteran views loud and clear. Americans must realize their future requires subordinating religious doctrine to the Constitution. It really is quite simple.

Sorry I missed you at Bubba Gump. We had a wonderful time in boring old New Orleans. My wife told me to tell the guy with the microphone to announce - "Funky butt, bosshog will meet you at the beerstand." I think a meetup in the big easy is just the ticket for Louisiana and Mississippi DUers. I always get a little twinge of pride in my heart when such things like bubba gump occur because a bunch of evil liberals wore the uniform for awhile. Beer at 0900, how evil, we could have been in church hating our neighbors. Love ya Hun!

I went to 7th grade at the little red school house way out on the runway past the CT cage. A very satisfying two years. My parents loved it too. We lived in base housing. I know they had a new school built there but that little red school has had charm. I used to ride my bike to Edzell Castle. Now, thats something you don't find driving down the highway in Mississippi.

65. So perfect. That's what I say. If I find someone who supports the war, I
ask if they think it is a just war like WWII. If they say no, I can argue the point from that angle. If they say yes, I ask why they are not serving or why their children are not serving. I then say that it is their duty to sign up to fight in a war that is just. After all, men in the 40's considered it their duty. My grandmother's 5 brothers all signed up together. Most people cannot make an argument that this is a just war, but they cannot serve for any reason. It is very effective.

If they will serve or say that their child is, I don't argue with them about the war beyond saying that I admire their desire to serve their country and that I have right to decent.

They both said "No". If this country needs us, we'll serve." That said .... fast forward past (the righteous, mostly) Afghanistan War to the start of The War in Iraq(tm) ......... neither would join for this illegal war ..... or they'd be answering to me.

I am very proud of my sons.

A caller on one of AAR's shows this morning, said her vet husband and friends consider all of this a betrayal. A betrayal to the WWII vets, the Korean vets, the Vietnam vets, all who served, fought, and died.

I missed Vietnam by one year. But my old man learned to fly in the Navy, flew B-25's as a Marine in the South Pacific during WWII, and was a forward radar guy in Korea.

He died in '75, but I knew him well enough to know that he too would have considered the current mess a betrayal. He too fought, and watched his buddies die, defending the U.S. Constitution.

NOT THE FUCKING BIBLE!!!

Yeah the M14 was near perfect. Had range, knock down power and dead nuts accuracy. My first exposure to composite stocks. The 16 is the weapon of the fire superiority doctrine that I like to call spray and pray. Had to qualify .45 to stand topside watches on das boot in port.

I was still in when The Hunt for Red October came out and I couldn't believe the Navy Press published it. Haven't read Pride, I'll have to look into it.

No American citizens should have to serve in the military. I had a fantastic 24 years where the highs totally outnumbered the lows. Ask any vet and they'll tell they were just doing their job. I actually resent having to use the vet card, but it sure puts an end to any conversation that goes in the wrong direction. I'll continue telling the truth; I'm too old to lie and if you always tell the truth you never have to remember anything - Mark Twain. And one of my favorite sayings: the easiest way to piss off a conservative is to tell the truth. The theme continues, as a democrat of old (Adlai Stevenson, I think) said: "I will quit telling the truth about republicans when they quit lying about Democrats." Interesting - liberals-truth, conservatives-lies. Thanks for your two cents worth, it is priceless to me.

He was the first Vet to get a POW plate on his car in Missouri. He was very active in POW groups and other military groups, was highly decorated. He was buried at the Military Cemetary at Ft. Scott, KS. I never got to know him, just second hand from my Grandfather, and then one day his widow sent me a whole packet of news clippings and copies of records. I was like, WOW! His twin brother was in the navy in WWII also, and my Dad's brother was in the Korean War.

90. I am a peace loving man but
I almost wish someone would approach me the way they have you. I doubt I would have the patience you have shown. Put those enlistment office cards on every windshield with a Bush*/Cheney bumper sticker just to make them squirm. I also think Young Republicans on College Campus is a place to leave some cards. America is damn lucky to have the likes of you and I agree with you wholeheartedly. I will still follow my oath to protect America from enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC

92. The Constitution is the operative word these days....
whatever we say and do, bring it into every conversation.

Check out this thread about using constitutional rights more in our daily conversations:

96. My great-uncle would be proud
He died last summer, but used to call me up and "fuminate" about BushCo and their follies. He was especially angry about the aircraft carrier pictures. Said that *&^*&^ should never be wearing wings. He felt that BushCo were distroying the Constitution he swore and fought to uphold.

Perhaps I should mention he was a Pearl Harbor survivor...

97. Thanks Bosshog
Reading your posts always makes me smile and laugh. Thanks for serving our country and defending the Constitution. Both my grandpas served in WWII, one in Europe the other in Africa and I have always been very proud of that. Keep up the good work!

108. Thank You Shipmate, My Wife was a Radioman
72-74, Naval Weapons Center, China Lake. That's where we met. She's an evil liberal like me, just not as noisy about it. She went to Bootcamp at Bainbridge, wore the old light blue and white pin stripe uniform. Pretty Cool. There were about half a dozen Waves onboard, five third classes and one crusty old Aviation Master Chief. Great tour of duty. And thank you for your service.

109. I went to bootcamp in Orlando
I, too, wore the old light blue and white pin stripe "summer blues" uniform as well as the navy blue wool winter uniform. This was just before they adopted those ugly black suit uniforms. I'm glad they brought bells back for the guys - those black suits looked stupid. Ugh.

Thank you right back for your service! People are surprised to find out this grandma is a veteran. I've had to play the "vet card" a few times to shut up some asshole who dared to question my patriotism. I still have my "Veteran for Kerry" bumpersticker on my car and one of my prized possessions is my "Veteran for Wellstone" button. I'm in Minnesota and no one fought harder for vets than Wellstone, even though we wasn't one himself.

110. Every weekend we get a bunch of paint ball warriors here where I live
They wear fatigues and paint their faces and go play war. I'd love hand out some recruiting forms and offer to take them all to the recruiting station so they can play real war with real bullets.

And please don't say "only" six years. You served your country proudly and professionally, period. And correct thinking Americans know how important your six years were to them.

116. Right On Chief
I started asking people why they didn't go fight during the first Gulf War. All I ever get is stammers and stutters and lame excuses. I point out that it's always easier to have someone else do the dirty work than for them to do it themselves. That it's easy to support a war when they know they won't be the ones that get bloody. That usually shuts them up.

I especially like your "enemies of the constitution" line. I think I'm going to borrow that from you and start to use it.

124. Hello Shipmate
I'm getting awful damn personal about the Constitution. I see too many "enemies" of it on our shores. There are those who think it can be twisted and turned and abused to satisfy their "beliefs" and their hate of others. Those in uniform didn't sacrifice yesterday and aren't sacrificing today so zealots can ruin our country. I sincerely believe they are domestic enemies of the constution and I swore to protect that wonderful document

AGAINST ALL ENEMIES FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.

Thanks for your kind Post and thanks for going to NAM so I didn't have to.

This Army vet says "thank you" for this thread, the great sentence (which I will poach, if you don't mind), and for reminding me that we find other proud vets wherever we go.

127. Roger that Teammate
and thank you for your service. I believe us guys who used to serve would make an imposing force to be reckoned with. I get borderline insane when someone messes with our Constitution. Please, use it loudly and often. You earned it. A very incredible photo you have displayed. Chickenhawks should be forced to hang it where they have to see it every day.

AGAINST ALL ENEMIES FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.

129. For all DU Vets: BRAVO ZULU
Chief, I'll stand the line with you. I took my oath seriously, and still do.

I am trying to live the rest of my life in peace, but some things are worth fighting for. I have traded my sword for a pen, but I still keep that sword sharpened to protect and defend.

I love that Joe Kline painting. I spent 12 years riding in Hueys, and the sound of one still makes my heart speed up. Kinda sad that they are mostly retired. Our local VFW has an old H model on static display, and my son calls it "Dad's helicopter."

I met some great Navy men and women in Japan- I was TDY at Camp Zama in 1988, and we flew over to Yokosuka several times.

The Pagan Preacher
I don't turn the other cheek.
