Poll question: Am I wrong, or do DU posters spend more time attacking Democrats
than Republicans?

Oh sure there are anti-Bush threads, ect, but I see more threads attacking fellow Democrats (Dean, Clark, Kerry, Kucinich, ect) than I do attacking Republicans. Do others believe this is the case? And if so why is that the case?

1. I Understand
I believe that we should straighten out the evil GOP but also we can't let our "Democrats" run wild either.

You get the point. I voted NO.

2. I certainly get that impression a lot but it isn't everybody.
It is one of the frustrating things about DU but there are a lot of positives which is why I hang around here anyway.

4. Attacking? Maybe
I think it has a lot to do with having the hope that one could actually change the mind of a wayward Democrat. That is simply not an option with the bad guys.

7. I think you're wrong, but...
I think there are logical explanations to the perception that a lot of dem-on-dem attacks are happening. First of all, does it really raise an eyebrow when you read a scathing post about a republican? That's what we do here! LOL! You kind of just expect those posts, and therefore don't really even notice them as attacks. But, when we call a foul dem on the same stuff, if someone has anything bad to say about a dem, we tend to notice, and sometimes even take it personally. Such instances tend to be etched in our conscience more, I think, because they're outside the norm.

Secondly, perhaps you're not THAT wrong. Perhaps the stakes are so damn high now, everybody so on edge, so pissed off that this government still stands, that when people like Dean and Clinton start espousing positions that seem to support the BushCo agenda -- any part of it, at this point, no matter how small -- it drives some of us NUTS. The GOP gets what it wants because it never gives an inch, never gives up. We're always the ones to say "thank you sir, may I please have another." I think a lot of us are just damned tired of that, and we want these politicians to start representing US for a change. As they're charged to do in the constitution.

What a concept.

12. It's Damned Sure True Down In The Gun Dungeon
Gun-loving "Democrats" in the Dungeon never miss a chance to trash Democrats who don't toe the NRA line. Special targets: Boxer, Pelosi, Schumer, Gore, Kerry. And trust me on this: they'll hate whoever the party puts up for 2008. Not pretty to contemplate......

14. There's a strong correlation between a Democrat's chance of winning an...
...election and the amount of scorn that is heaped on him or her at DU.

Everybody's always most skeptical about the best ones.

And I don't think the anti-Bush postings are any more helpful. Everyone spends more time criticizing Republicans and Democrats than they spend coming up with arguments about why progressive values are the best.

Oh, and that reminds me of a third DU phenomenon: one of the most shocking posts I started was a "what are your most important issues" thread in the middle of the 2004 campaign.

You would have thought that there would have been enough talk about politics that Democrats would be pretty sure about why they are democrats and that they'd be on the same page. Well, there probably 30 replies to my post, and they were all different, and they were things like, "the environment," "animal rights," "The Patriot Act" -- ie, a bunch of stuff that really says nothing to the average American about what's going wrong in their lives, and it was a bunch of stuff that revealed really confused priorities. You'd think with Bush concentrating so much power and wealth in the hands of so few, and with the middle class becoming an endangered species that DU'ers would have had a much more accute sense of the reasons they vote Democratic.

16. While we have no control over how Republicans...
...act and vote...we SHOULD be able to influence how Democrats act and vote with our voice and vote.

Republicans are the ones that won't allow dissenting voices within their party. Do Democrats want the same for their party?

Let's hope not.

19. I think it's true
but I also think a lot of it is that most of us here hate Republicans, and consider then incapable of anything other than evil. Democrats, on the other hand, are supposed to be their direct opposition, and therefore our allies. Some people get impatient very quickly with anyone they see as giving in to the Repugs in the slightest. Others seem to have a certain Democrat they love to hate, such as Dean or Kerry, and any message of praise - or sometimes mere mention - of said Democrat, will evoke a message blasting the Democrat, and quite possibly the person who posted the message. A few are just freep disruptors.
